Our latest project involved the design and installation of a state-of-the-art refrigeration system at a family-owned and operated farm located in the Limestone Coast region of South Australia.
This initiative aimed to enhance the long-term, low-humidity
storage capabilities for their premium red and brown onions.
Scope of Work:
• Coolroom Specifications: The project entailed the refrigeration of two 24m x 20m x 7.6m coolrooms, each engineered to accommodate up to 1000 tonnes of onions. These facilities are designed to maintain optimal storage conditions, preserving the quality and extending the shelf life of the produce.
• Refrigeration System Design: We engineered a cutting-edge refrigeration system incorporating the latest technologies, including compressor variable speed drives, electronic expansion valves, EC condenser fans, and low GWP refrigerant. This approach ensures energy efficiency and precise temperature control within the coolrooms.
• Automation controls and Monitoring: An in-house custom-programmed Schneider PLC was integrated into the system to meet the clients specific operational requirements. This setup targets the highest possible efficiency and performance all while maintaining very simple user operation. Turning the systems on and off, together with alterations to the systems parameters are done with a very simple set of menu screens on a custom touch screen controller. Remote connectivity is also taken care of, allowing for real-time monitoring and alarm notifications, thereby ensuring
the system's optimal performance and reliability.
This project underscores our commitment to delivering tailored, high-performance refrigeration solutions that support the agricultural sector's needs for sustainable and efficient
produce storage.
