An important part of this renovation was creating light and space into a previously space-challenged kitchen. Not only did we open the space up to the main house, we also added a large window that framed a view of a garden wall created by . The kitchen is the heart of this home, and our clients use the additional extras such as the baking cupboard to their fullest advantage. .

Now you see it now you don’t! Faced with what ostensibly was a very large corridor that housed the informal tv living room, when we turned the focus 180 degrees and set the seating well back under the stairs we either had to close off the kitchen for tv wall space… or come up with a novel idea to hide the tv when not in use. On a very heavy sliding track and a lot of breaths held whilst working out the technical difficulties of tv wiring in motion, we created a smooth and subtle “tv door” that tracks right back into a pocket.

We are always honoured to work with our clients’ art collections to bring new focus on their pieces. In this informal living/dining niche, we were lucky to work with this and chose the colourways of the setting to bring out the tints in the painting.

Well this is a wonderful yet belated surprise that we just found out! We made 2025 at the Boy awards which were judged in New York late December. The Jan/Feb issue shows the list, where we were one of two honourees for Residential Staircase design. The heavenly staircase by took out top marks with their deservedly beautiful design.

Thanks again to our wonderful client who trusted that a team from Australia could both envisage and build a dream home for her in San Francisco, and to the amazing team that designed and built this dream.

These include what’s my go-to recipe (for a woman that rarely cooks it’s got to be ), what I am listening to ( is on top list download rotated with the wild tunes of ), what I have been reading ( James Bradley’s work never fails to be a page turner), what are some of my favourite Homewares stores ( , and all have wonderful bed threads at differing price points) and what are some of my favourite artworks at home. View a little slice into my world 🌍 🌞.

Where the focus previously was to look at the wall under the stair, we turned the tables and settled under this space to give a sense of security whilst creating a vantage point to view out to the garden beyond. This created space for treasured objects and art, such as this Ray Crooke, to hold court without distraction.

Before and after: the informal TV area of this residence was definitely not shabby before. It was beautifully appointed with luxe furnishings and a wall of joinery that provided a backdrop for a lifetime of collecting. However the space felt awkward. It was not easy to settle down into a nights tv watching in a relaxed way. The room was more corridor than restful living space. We solved this conundrum by moving the living to under the stairwell, creating a large bespoke daybed that allowed for both tv watching and informal dining in one. Chairs were chosen that doubled (and swivelled) as both dining and comfortable tv chairs, just that little bit higher than usual armchairs. The focus is then directed to the kitchen, and before that, a pull out large sliding panel that houses the tv. Now the corridor is clear and the living space designated to the side. It was a small change in plan form that provided mighty change to liveability performance. We consider these actions and activities in detail before we shape space.
