New tool day!!! A quick trip across the Strait to pick us this beauty. Those of you who know me well know my disdain of new technology, but this, when produced in 1880 would've been a game changer.
I first saw one of these a couple of years ago during a family trip to the Sovereign Hill goldfields. There was a working example in their Forgotten trades workshop and I was amazed at how well it worked, the only power-assist was leverage!
The previous owners of this particular item were the Rodgers family; the original contractors responsible for the Flinders st Station construction. This tool would've (possibly) been involved with the manufacture of many of the Station's windows and doors, and many other stand-out projects across Victoria.
After reassembly and then conducting my first mortice yesterday, I had the biggest smile in town!
I feel very privileged to have this in my workshop, for it once again to be involved in the production of timeless timber joinery for future generations to enjoy!
Happiest of fridays to you all! 😊
