πŸ‹ Exciting news from Victor Harbor! πŸ‹

Yesterday’s whale sighting has now been officially confirmed as a Southern Right Whale β€” the very first Southern Right Whale recorded for the season!

This is a special moment for our region, as Southern Right Whales return to our coastline each year after their long journey from Antarctica. Victor Harbor is recognised as an important nursery area for these magnificent animals, providing a safe and sheltered environment where they can socialise, rest, and raise their young. Many calves are born along our shores, with mothers and calves often remaining in the area for months at a time.

The arrival of the season’s first Southern Right Whale is always an exciting milestone, marking the beginning of another incredible whale season. It also serves as a reminder of the vital role our coastline plays in supporting these endangered giants during one of the most important stages of their lives.

We’re thrilled to welcome our beautiful Southern Rights back to Victor Harbor, and it makes this first sighting even more special as it coincides with WhaleFest celebrations.

A huge thank you to Encounter Bay Right Whale Study for their continued dedication to monitoring and researching Southern Right Whales in our region, and for confirming this exciting first sighting of the season.

Keep your eyes on the water β€” whale season is in full swing! πŸ’™πŸ³

There is beauty here in difference. 🌊

Sea Different is an exhibition of ocean-inspired artworks created by neurodiverse artists and NDIS participants from across the Fleurieu Coast - and it's one of the most quietly powerful things you'll encounter during Winter Whale Fest.

Bold and playful. Calm and contemplative. Each piece is a unique window into how these artists see, feel and interpret the sea - and the world around them.

All through June at the South Australian Whale Centre, Victor Harbor Visitor Centre, the exhibition invites you to slow down, look beyond the surface and connect with perspectives that are too often unseen.

All artworks are available to purchase, directly supporting the artists behind them.
