Unexplained jump in your water bill? 💧

If your bill has spiked but your habits haven’t changed, or you’re noticing mysterious damp patches around the house, you’re likely dealing with a hidden leak.

Don’t wait for property damage or a massive bill to hit. Take 10 minutes this weekend to run through this quick leak finding checklist:
✔️ 𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝙏𝙤𝙞𝙡𝙚𝙩 𝙋𝙖𝙥𝙚𝙧 𝙏𝙚𝙨𝙩:
Place a small piece of dry toilet paper at the back of the toilet bowl. It should stay bone dry until the next flush. If it gets wet, your cistern is constantly running water.
✔️ 𝘾𝙝𝙚𝙘𝙠 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙃𝙤𝙩 𝙒𝙖𝙩𝙚𝙧 𝙎𝙮𝙨𝙩𝙚𝙢:
Look at the expansion valves near the top of the unit when you haven’t used hot water for a while. They should never be constantly dripping or leaking.
✔️ 𝙐𝙣𝙥𝙡𝙪𝙜 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙃𝙤𝙨𝙚𝙨:
Disconnect your garden hoses and irrigation pipes from the outdoor taps. Often, a slow tap leak hides right behind the connection.
✔️ 𝙍𝙚𝙖𝙙 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙇𝙖𝙬𝙣:
Look for patches of grass that are noticeably greener or faster growing than the rest of the yard. This is a classic sign of an underground pipe leak.
✔️ 𝙇𝙞𝙨𝙩𝙚𝙣 𝘾𝙡𝙤𝙨𝙚𝙡𝙮:
Regularly inspect your indoor taps and toilets for faint dripping sounds or pooling water around the bases.

Found a leak? What to do next:
Turn off your main water meter to stop the waste (and the damage) and get a licensed plumber on the horn to sort it out before it becomes a major repair job.

Are you part of the 83%? 💸 🏠

According to the Insurance Council of Australia (ICA), a massive 83% of Australian households BELIEVE they may be underinsured when it comes to their home and contents.

Even worse, further data shows that 23% of Aussie properties are ACTUALLY underinsured by more than 50%.

That means if a total disaster hits, one in four homeowners will only get half the cash they actually need to rebuild.

Don't just guess your 'sum insured' value. Jump online, use a proper building cost calculator and make sure your policy covers demolition, debris removal and today's actual material costs.

Don't find out you're short when it's too late!

If you look under your kitchen sink, bathroom vanity or behind your toilet, you’ll probably see a flexible, braided stainless steel pipe. They’re called flexi hoses and while they make plumbing easy, they are one of the leading causes of catastrophic internal flooding in Australian homes.

When these things burst, they can pump out up to 1,500 litres of water an hour while you’re at work or away for the weekend.

Don't wait for a blowout. Take 5 minutes this weekend to look under your cupboards and check for these 4 warning signs:
✔️ 𝙍𝙪𝙨𝙩 𝙨𝙥𝙤𝙩𝙨:
Any corrosion means the inner rubber tube is already failing.
✔️ 𝙁𝙧𝙖𝙮𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙤𝙧 𝙡𝙤𝙤𝙨𝙚 𝙬𝙞𝙧𝙚:
If the metal braid is unravelling, it’s lost its strength.
✔️ 𝙆𝙞𝙣𝙠𝙨 𝙤𝙧 𝙩𝙞𝙜𝙝𝙩 𝙩𝙬𝙞𝙨𝙩𝙨:
Hoses should have a smooth curve, not be bent or stretched to capacity.
✔️ 𝘽𝙪𝙡𝙜𝙚𝙨:
If you see a ballooning spot, it’s a ticking time bomb.

Pro tip: Keep corrosive cleaning chemicals stored in a separate cupboard if you can, as the fumes can actually degrade the metal braid over time. Most manufacturers recommend replacing them every 5 to 10 years, regardless of how they look.

Winter is here. Is your home sorted? 🔥❄️

As the cold weather settles in, we’re all turning up the heaters and digging out the electric blankets. But winter is also peak season for accidental house fires and electrical faults.

Before you get too cozy, run through this quick winter safety checklist to protect your home and family:
✔️ 𝙎𝙢𝙤𝙠𝙚 𝘼𝙡𝙖𝙧𝙢𝙨:
Test them this week. Make sure they actually work and change the batteries if you haven't recently.
✔️ 𝙁𝙞𝙧𝙚 𝙎𝙖𝙛𝙚𝙩𝙮 𝙆𝙞𝙩:
Keep your fire extinguisher and fire blanket somewhere easy to grab, and double check those expiry dates.
✔️ 𝙀𝙡𝙚𝙘𝙩𝙧𝙞𝙘 𝘽𝙡𝙖𝙣𝙠𝙚𝙩𝙨:
Check them for any fraying or damage before putting them on. Use them strictly as an under blanket (unless designed otherwise) and always turn them or electric throws off when you leave the room so they don't overheat.
✔️ 𝙃𝙚𝙖𝙩𝙚𝙧𝙨:
Service your gas heaters and reverse cycle air cons before heavy use. Remember the golden rule: keep clothing, drying racks and furniture at least one metre away from any open heater.
✔️ 𝙁𝙞𝙧𝙚𝙥𝙡𝙖𝙘𝙚𝙨:
If you have a wood burner, make sure the chimney and flues are clear and properly swept before lighting your first fire of the season.

A quick check now means a safe, warm winter ahead.

If you’ve been watching the news, you’ll know Southeast QLD and Northeast NSW have just copped a massive drenching. Some spots are seeing a month's worth of rain in a single day.

While the weather system is moving off the coast, it’s a timely wake up call for the rest of NSW to prep our properties before the next heavy front hits.

To avoid internal water and flood damage, here are 4 quick things to check this weekend:

✔️ 𝘾𝙡𝙚𝙖𝙧 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙜𝙪𝙩𝙩𝙚𝙧𝙨 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙙𝙤𝙬𝙣𝙥𝙞𝙥𝙚𝙨.
Blocked gutters mean water backs up under your eaves and straight into your ceiling.

✔️ 𝙄𝙣𝙨𝙥𝙚𝙘𝙩 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙧𝙤𝙤𝙛.
Look for cracked tiles or loose sheeting. Small leaks during light rain become internal waterfalls during a major deluge.

✔️ 𝘾𝙝𝙚𝙘𝙠 𝙨𝙪𝙧𝙛𝙖𝙘𝙚 𝙙𝙧𝙖𝙞𝙣𝙖𝙜𝙚.
Make sure ground level grates and drains around your perimeter aren’t covered in leaves or dirt. Water needs a clear path away from your foundations.

✔️ 𝙍𝙚𝙫𝙞𝙚𝙬 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙨𝙚𝙖𝙡𝙨.
Check the weather stripping on the bottom of external doors, especially those opening onto flat patios or decks.

A couple of hours of maintenance now can save you thousands in restoration and rebuild costs later.

Hey guys, it's time to dig deep for a champion. 13 year old Aussie MX champ Eliza Dennis took a heavy hit and copped a serious spinal injury.

The Wagga Motorcycle Sports Club Inc community are running a raffle to help her road to recovery. Tickets start at only $5 each. That's less than a beer. Plus, you could snag a brand new Yamaha TTR 110 worth $3,300.
