Clocks go forward this Sunday! ⏰
Daylight saving starts at 2am this Sunday 4 October, so we lose an hour of sleep but gain those long, sunny evenings. 🌅
Fire services recommend testing your smoke alarms every month. Changing the clocks is a great reminder to give them a proper once-over too. It only takes a few minutes and is one of the easiest ways to keep your family safe.
✅ Test it. Press and hold the test button until it beeps. No beep? It’s time for a new battery or a new alarm.
✅ Clean it. Dust and cobwebs can stop it sensing smoke. Give it a gentle vacuum or wipe over.
✅ Check its age. Smoke alarms only last about 10 years. Look for the date on the back, and if it’s 10 or older (or there’s no date at all), it’s due to be replaced.
✅ Make sure it’s compliant. Fire services recommend photoelectric alarms that are hardwired, interconnected, and meet Australian Standards.
A working smoke alarm could save more than your home. It could save your life. ❤️
