Members day out, started with morning tea at the club rooms, then off to Wheelchair For Kids workshop at Wangara, shown how the wheelchairs are assembled, and packed with other items into individual boxes, put into containers, sent overseas and given to children with disabilities.
Wow so many volunteers doing such a fantastic job. Henry Ford would be very proud at how the workshop is run. Since 1996 they have dispatched over 70K wheelchairs
Then off to the Kingsway for lunch yum! All in the care of our fabulous bus driver Mark Makin, President of Mt Lawley /Inglewood RSL Sub Branch, who was also joined by other members of the branch. Always welcome.

🌹 A POPPY IS MORE THAN JUST A FLOWER. 🇬🇧

It represents a life lost, a family shattered, a future never lived.

It honours the brave men and women who gave everything, those who never returned, and those who came home forever changed.

It is not a fashion statement. It is not a political symbol. It is a solemn promise that their sacrifice will never be forgotten.

So wear your poppy with pride. Take time to reflect. Observe the silence. Teach the next generation why remembrance matters.

Because when we stop remembering, we risk forgetting the true cost of our freedom.

🌹 REMEMBER THEIR NAMES. HONOUR THEIR SACRIFICE. KEEP THEIR MEMORY ALIVE.

WE WILL REMEMBER THEM. 🇬🇧

Thinking about paying someone to help with your DVA claim?

Paying for an advocacy service does not change how your claim is assessed. You can lodge a claim yourself through MyService or access free support from a trained advocate through an ex-service organisation.

If you’re considering a paid service, make sure you understand the fees, what support will be provided and the terms of the agreement before you sign.

When it comes to making a claim, you have choices. We’re here to help you understand your options and make an informed decision.

We pause today to honour the enduring strength and sacrifice of war widows and widowers across Australia.

War Widows Day recognises those who have carried the profound burden of loss, raising families and supporting their communities after the service and sacrifice of their loved ones. Their resilience and quiet courage have shaped the lives of generations.

We acknowledge the lasting impact of their contribution, not only in standing beside those who served, but in preserving the memory of service and sacrifice for our nation.

On this day, we remember more than 40,000 war widows and widowers in Australia, and we honour their legacy of strength, dignity and dedication.

Lest we forget.

Thank you for the love & support you have given both now and in the past to all of our Australian Defence Forces.

Today is War Widows Day, and today we honour you.

To every war widow and widower across Australia, you loved someone who served, and you carried what that service cost long after the uniform was folded away. You raised families whilst navigating loss and a new life you never imagined, and you held each other up when no one else understood.

Thank you. We remember you all today.

What Australians from all different services in a crisis are very good at, getting together & working in helping everybody effected.

Today marks 24 years since the Bali bombings, a tragedy that claimed 202 lives, including 88 Australians, and left many more injured.

We remember those who lost their lives, the survivors, and the families and communities forever changed by the events of 13 October 2002.

We also acknowledge the Australian Defence Force personnel who responded in the days that followed.

Through Operation Bali Assist, Air Force crews and aeromedical evacuation teams undertook Australia's largest aeromedical evacuation operation since the Vietnam War, transporting critically injured Australians home for urgent medical care.

Their extraordinary efforts, alongside those of medical professionals, emergency responders, and support personnel, helped save lives and shaped Australia's military aeromedical evacuation capabilities for years to come.

Today, we honour the victims, stand with those who continue to carry the impact of the attacks, and recognise all who answered the call to help.

25 years ago today, Australian service in Afghanistan began.

Over the two decades that followed, more than 39,000 Australians served. 41 did not come home. Many more returned carrying wounds that are not always visible. And behind every one of them were families who lived through it alongside them.

Today we honour all who served in Afghanistan and the Middle East Area of Operations, and the families who carried that service with them.

To mark this anniversary, DVA has released a commemorative coin recognising all who served and the lasting impact of that service on veterans and their families. If you’re unable to attend the national commemorative service on Sunday 11 October, you can collect a coin from your nearest Open Arms centre from 5 November, or register to receive one by post. More info here: https://www.dva.gov.au/recognition-and-commemoration/commemoration-services/commemorative-services-in-australia/25th-anniversary-of-australian-service-in-the-afghanistan-war/commemorative-coin-marks-25-years-since-australian-service-in-afghanistan-began

If this anniversary brings something up for you, please know that support is always available through our social workers and through Open Arms on 1800 011 046.
