Cutting Edge Electrical turns 30! 🎉

To mark the occasion, we headed to Geelong for a weekend of celebrations, team challenges and Grand Final action.

We kicked things off with our very own Amazing Race around Geelong, with the Red Team taking out the win.

Friday night we came together at Little Creatures Brewery for our 30th anniversary dinner, where we reflected on how far the business has come since 1996, celebrated the people and achievements along the way, and looked to what's next.

Then on Saturday it was off to the Queen of the West to watch the AFL Grand Final and round out a fantastic weekend.

Reaching 30 years in business is a milestone we're incredibly proud of, and we couldn't have done it without the support of our loyal customers and the hard work and dedication of our amazing team, past and present. A huge shout-out to all of you who helped make Cutting Edge what it is today!

RECENT GENERATOR INSTALLATIONS ⚡

A backup generator is only useful if it's ready and capable to take over when you need it. Two of our recent projects show how requirements can differ from site to site and why getting the setup right matters.

🏪 LOCAL IGA SUPERMARKET

The owner approached us looking for reliable backup power, particularly for hot summer days when outages can interrupt operations and put refrigerated stock at risk.

The existing onsite generator was replaced with an enclosed 110kVA diesel generator, specifically sized to meet the supermarket’s strict onsite loading requirements.

Our team managed the job from start to finish, assessing the site and existing set-up to determine the issue, working out the best solution for their needs, disconnecting and organising the removal of the old generator, preparing and installing the new generator and completing detailed testing to ensure the changeover operated correctly.

🐷 LOCAL PIGGERY

At this site, growth over the years meant the existing 13-year-old 80kVA generator was no longer large enough for the operation.

We removed the old unit and installed an open 250kVA diesel generator, sized for the site's increased loading requirements and set up to provide simple, trouble-free backup power when needed.

A generator is only one part of a dependable backup power system. Correct sizing, installation and a suitable manual or automatic changeover setup all help ensure the power is there when it's actually needed.

One of the Cutting Edge crew is taking on a serious challenge for a great cause 👨‍🚒

Our Motor Workshop fitter and turner, Norman Heard, will be tackling the annual Melbourne Firefighter Stair Climb this September, climbing 28 floors wearing 25kg of firefighting gear to raise funds for cancer research and crisis support.

Emergency services personnel from across Australia will descend on Melbourne to participate in the gruelling event, with funds going to the MFSC's chosen beneficiaries; Lifeline, Peter MacCallum Cancer Foundation and 000Foundation. Since its inception in 2014, the MFSC has raised over $4 million for charity.

We're proud to get behind Norman as he takes on the challenge and wish him all the best with his training over the next couple of months!

Winter can be tough on electrical equipment. Condensation inside switchboards, cold motor starts, damaged seals and moisture ingress can all become real risks as temperatures drop.

Common trouble spots that are worth checking out include:
