Mudgee Team Training Village has won its category at the 2026 Master Builders Association of NSW Excellence in Construction Awards.

The project received the award for Hospitality Buildings – New: $10 million to $20 million at the ceremony in Sydney on Saturday 24th October.

Purpose-built for athletes, schools and corporate groups, the facility accommodates 96 guests across 32 rooms and includes dedicated training, recovery, and communal spaces. As part of the wider Glen Willow Sporting Precinct, it supports Mudgee’s capacity to host regional sporting events and attract visitors to the region.

At North, safety is how we look after each other.

Every day, we can make a difference by looking out for one another, sharing knowledge, and creating a workplace where everyone feels safe and supported.

Our Apprentice and Cadet teams come together bi-monthly, and our Supervisors and Site Managers come together bi-monthly to share learnings from across our projects, strengthening our commitment to quality and safety. This month, they added some fun with a quiz and prizes!

Throughout October, we're encouraging our teams and subbies to stop, check in and reset how we prioritise health and safety for ourselves, our families, and the people we work with. “It’s about respect, looking out for each other, doing the job right, and making sure everyone gets home safe- that’s what builds Trust”. Our Safety team is bringing this message to life across our sites and offices through: Site BBQs, recognition awards for Subbies' commitment to safety, quizzes and toolbox talks aligned with Safe Work Australia's four weekly focus areas:

Week 3: For the future - The long-term impact
Week 4: For all - Action across all workplaces

Five years ago, we asked ourselves a simple question:

How do we intentionally build the next generation of leaders at North?
Not just through formal training, but by creating opportunities for people to gain experience, broaden their exposure to the business, and learn directly from those who have walked the path before them.

Our answer was True North.

What started as an idea has now grown into a leadership development program entering its fifth year, with more than 65 Northies having participated along the way.

True North isn't about creating future job titles. It's about building capability, confidence and connection. It's about giving people a deeper understanding of the business, exposure to different perspectives, and access to mentoring and coaching from our Directors and Executive Team: Matthew Cook, John Melvin, Mark Chase, Nicole Redmond, Sarah Wouters, Ray Millar, Darren Wilton, Ryan Wheele, Gary Tyzack.

What has made the program particularly rewarding is that it isn't a one-way conversation. Participants have helped shape initiatives across our business, challenged our thinking, and contributed ideas that continue to influence how we operate.

As we commence True North 5.0, we're incredibly proud of the people who have invested in their own growth and of the leaders who have invested their time in supporting others.

What shapes a great leader? Often, it’s the experiences that challenge you along the way.

For Brad, it’s the diversity of projects and people he's worked alongside. “From aged care, hospitals, schools, swimming pools, luxury residential and hospitality venues, every project has given me a broader understanding of the end-user experience, as well as broadening my knowledge within the industry.
Whilst working with different site managers, consultants, subcontractors, and clients through different challenging environments has strengthened the value of collaboration to achieve the desired results, while managing my own projects with the support of the wider North team that has all helped build my confidence as a leader.”

For Pete, a handful of defining moments accelerated his growth. “Winning Commercial Apprentice of the Year, competing at National WorldSkills Carpentry Competition, and earning a scholarship to the UK were incredible opportunities. But running my first project as a second-year apprentice, with the support of the North team just across the road, really challenged me and taught me so much about leading and managing. This set the foundations to move onto more complex and challenging projects, working as part of larger project team, managing the core onsite team and collaboratively working through the high-pressure environments construction creates.”

Their journeys show that leadership is built through experience, the willingness to keep learning, and having the right people around you to support your growth.

St Paul's Lutheran Primary School – Caboolture, QLD – under construction:

The project comprises of the construction of the new multi-purpose hall at St Paul's Lutheran Primary School Caboolture. The multipurpose hall will consist of an enclosed court with adjoining amenities, kitchen and equipment store. Externally, a new access road is being constructed alongside landscaping and covered links tying the building into the existing campus. We look forward to the continued collaboration with St Paul's Lutheran Primary School & Kindergarten, Caboolture, Towill Design Group and Hammond & Neale over the course of the project.

R U OK? Day is a National Day of Action in Australia focused on su***de prevention and mental health awareness. Its core message is a reminder to ask, "Are you OK?" and to really listen to family, friends, and colleagues.

How to ask R U OK?

North Construction & Building has been awarded the Certificate of Professional Excellence in the Commercial Construction ($25M–$60M) category at the AIB National Professional Excellence Awards 2026.

We're incredibly proud to announce that our Gosford Regional Library project has been awarded a Certificate of Professional Excellence in the Commercial Construction ($25M–$60M) category at the 2026 National Professional Excellence in Building Awards, hosted by the Australian Institute of Building (AIB) at the Hyatt Hotel, Canberra on Friday 28th August. This recognition is more special as it lands in the AIB's 75th anniversary year - a proud milestone to share in.

Heartfelt congratulations to Senior Project Manager Joel Price, who accepted the award as Team Leader, and to the entire project team whose skill, dedication and craftsmanship brought this landmark community space to life: “I was honoured to accept this award on behalf of the team, all who contributed to the success of this project. This recognition reflects the commitment, skill, and teamwork demonstrated by everyone involved from concept to completion. To our project team, consultants, subcontractors, suppliers, and Central Coast Council, thank you for the trust, collaboration, and countless hours invested in achieving a shared goal. At North Construction & Building, we believe the future of our industry and our region is built by investing in young people today.

That's why we're proud to once again present The North Challenge, now in its fifth year. This program invites Year 10 students from across the Central Coast to step into the shoes of business leaders and tackle one of the most significant issues facing our community: meeting the housing needs of a rapidly growing population.

This year's challenge asks students to “develop a business case for an innovative solution that will help the Central Coast Region meet the housing needs of its growing population" - a genuine, real-world problem with local impact.

We're delighted to welcome six local schools into the 2026 program:

▪️ Central Coast Grammar School ▪️ Kariong Mountains High School ▪️ Lisarow High School ▪️ MacKillop Catholic College ▪️ St Joseph's Catholic College ▪️ Tuggerah Lakes Secondary College – Berkeley Vale Campus

Across a series of hands-on workshops, student teams work directly with North's mentors and industry experts — developing skills in strategy, budgeting, feasibility, programming, and marketing, and ultimately building and pitching a complete Business Case. It's the same disciplined approach we bring to every project we deliver.

None of this would be possible without our valued partners - Business NSW Central Coast, Pacific Link Housing, the University of Newcastle, and Regional Industry Education Partnerships (RIEP) - who share our commitment to nurturing the next generation of thinkers, builders, and leaders.

The program culminates in the Pitch Presentation Day on Wednesday 4 November at the Red Tree Theatre, Wyong, where teams present their solutions to a panel of industry professionals.

Programs like The North Challenge remind us that shaping the future starts now - through mentorship, real-world learning, and a genuine investment in our young people. We couldn't be prouder to lead it.
