Check under your kitchen sink tonight.

Flexi hoses rust from the inside and give almost no warning. When one lets go it doesn't drip, it empties, and it does it under pressure.

Everything else that points to water damage shows up late. Yellowing through the Gyprock, swollen skirtings, grout weeping outside the shower line. By the time you can see it, you're repairing more than the leak.

Which part of a job does a tradesperson actually enjoy? Almost never the quick part.

Jacob's is cutting in, that crisp line where the wall meets the ceiling. Mateusz reckons it's skirtings and architraves, the finishing work everyone else rushes to get done.

Those are also the two things that tell you, years later, who did the work.

You shouldn't have to ring us to find out what's happening at your own house.

That's the whole reason we over-communicate. When we're on our way. When materials are ordered. Which contractor is coming, when they arrive, how long they'll be, when we're finished up.

Most people who call us have spent a job guessing at some point. It's the part we're least willing to get wrong.

Not every dated bathroom needs gutting.

A vanity swap, better lighting, LED strips around the mirror. Three changes that make the room read as new without moving a single wall.

Worth knowing before you budget for a full reno you might not need.

Half-finished jobs are the ones people are most embarrassed to call about.

This client had made a start on their fence and then life got busy, which is how most of them end up. We checked over what they'd started and finished the rest. Palings, sanding back, undercoat and top coat, the rotted posts out, new concrete mowing edge.

You don't have to pull it apart and start again. You just have to hand it over.

If your bathroom paint keeps peeling, the paint isn't the problem.

Moisture with nowhere to go will do the same thing to the next coat, and the one after that. By the time mould turns up you've paid for the same job twice.

Fixing the airflow costs less than fixing the wall.

Re-oil your deck every year, or you stop maintaining it and start slowly replacing it.

A deck left bare cops the full brunt of a SEQ summer. The timber dries out, the colour goes, and the rot sets in. By the time you notice, it's not a re-oil job anymore, it's new boards.

The good news is the boards are usually the only thing gone. If the joists underneath are still solid you just swap the timber and add a joist protector so the frame lasts even longer. That last bit is the step most people never check.

Most people don't realise we're not just handyman work. One Call is a team of builders.

Qualified carpenters, plasterers, the lot, all under one company. So a full kitchen reno, a new deck, or a bathroom rebuilt from scratch, you book it once instead of chasing five different trades who never call back.

We're licensed and insured for the big projects, not just the small fixes.

Got something larger on the list? Give us a call and we'll get it sorted.

There's a difference between a bloke who does odd jobs and a qualified tradie who can do five.

When you book One Call you're not getting a random handyman. You're getting a carpenter who also tapes walls, hangs plasterboard, does minor plumbing and concreting, and builds decks. Or a painter who can do minor carpentry, a bit of plastering and lay turf too.

That's why the job gets done properly, not patched up and left half finished.

Noticed your ceiling starting to dip in the middle?

Two things usually cause it.
Either the glue holding the plaster to the trusses has let go, or water's been getting in from the roof. The fix depends entirely on which one it is and how long it's been left.

Caught early, we can prop it back into line, glue and screw the sheet off, then re-plaster and repaint. Leave it too long after a leak and the whole ceiling has to come down and get replaced.

So if yours is sagging, get someone qualified up there to find out why before a small repair turns into a full replacement.
