Main Earthing System.

The main earthing system, know as an earth stake, is placed deep in the ground near the switchboard. And is an essential part of the electrical safety system. You may not notice it day to day, but its important to have its condition checked.

As you can see in the photo, a recent check of a clients main earth revealed it was rusted off just under the ground level. In this condition it wont provide an adequate earth, or earthing protection.

I'm happy to inspect you're earthing system and ensure its operating effectively, or promptly replace it as I did for this client recently. Please call or email me for help.

I came across this corroded hot water cylinder recently. Some cheeky little ants had nested their way up under the cover plate - making a real big mess.

Unfortunately, this one was beyond repair and had to be replaced.

Keep an eye out, if you notice any activity in or around your hot water cylinder please get in contact! I am happy to have a look and clean them out before this happens.

Here is an interesting light replacement job I attended recently. If you have any older fluorescent lights and you notice a dark syrup looking liquid staining the light cover, please call! This liquid is a chemical leaking from the capacitor and needs attention straight away. This particular light has now been replaced with a new energy efficient option. Happy client. Happy electrician!

Modern switch boards have extra safety protection via these earth leakage circuit breakers. They are also called a 'residual current safety switch'. If you have one it is best practice to test them once a month to make sure it's working well. You can test it via the TEST button. If you are not sure what to press or have tested it and it's not working, give me a call!
