We've fallen a bit behind on the posts for the last week of the challenge. It's been a busy time and we prioritised some recharging and filling our social connection cups on the weekend. So here's a quick recap of the numbers from the past few days...
▪️163▪️ for the 16.3% of people who experience an eating disorder (like Anorexia Nervosa, Bulimia Nervosa, binge-eating disorder) or some level of disordered eating (like restrictive dieting, binge-eating, vomiting, laxative use). Disordered eating can affect anyone however it's largely observed in female and non-binary people, adolescents and neurodivergent individuals. People with eating disorders often also experience other mental health disorders like anxiety, depression and PTSD. If you or someone you know is struggling with disordered eating, help is available at the Butterfly Foundation 🦋 1800 33 4673 and Beyond Blue 1300 22 4636.
▪️200▪️ for the approx 20% of female parents who experience anxiety and/or depression in the perinatal period (pregnancy and the first year following the child's birth). Around 1 in 10 male parents also experience perinatal anxiety and depression. We are currently in the perinatal period at SEMA, with our littlest team member being 8months old, and boy, is it a wild time. If you're feeling worried, anxious, overwhelmed or withdrawing from friends or family reach out to PANDA on 1300 726 306. They support the mental health of families during the perinatal period.
▪️108▪️ for the 10.8 years that the average Aussie will spend over their lifetime looking at their phone 📱(that's about 2.5hours each day). Experts suggest that screen time is robbing us of our ability to focus and impacting the quality of our relationships.
▪️163▪️ for the 163 safety plans that Lifeline provides EVERY DAY. A safety plan is a step-by-step plan to help people stay safe when they are feeling overwhelmed and having thoughts of su***de. Lifeline 13 11 14
▪️120▪️ for the 120 minutes of outside time that we should aim for every week 🍃. Being outside is strongly associated with improved physical and mental health, and is especially important for children and their developing brains.
