As of 1 January 2022, all properties sold in QLD must have Australian Standards Compliant AS3786-2014 interconnected photoelectric smoke alarms installed before the property exchanges hands. Failure to comply with this requirement will give the buyer the right to claim 0.15% of the property sale price during settlement.

As of 1 January 2022, all landlords have the responsibility for ensuring their property is compliant with QLD smoke alarm legislation, as of the commencement of a new lease or when a lease is renewed.
