Open Garden this weekend!

Grab a ticket to visit over 40 gardens in the region over the next 2 weekends. Tickets available at Food Fairness Illawarra

Our garden will be open this weekend (Saturday 31st October and Sunday 1st November). Come by for a look around our Mount Kembla Garden, spot some native pollinators, spy on our Satin Bowerbirds or chat with me about native plants and all things that need native plants to thrive.

It's been 6 years since we decided that we needed a pond and some running water in the garden. The constant moisture and added protection of a growing garden has seen moss and ferns take hold around the edges, providing further habitat for frogs, insects and lizards.

In the evenings, frogs are a constant presence. They are well protected while tucked between the rocks, logs and plants. The occasional possum shows up for a drink from time to time while spiders and microbats also take advantage of the extra insect activity.

For those who follow our stories, the daylight hours see birds of many species visiting for a drink and a wash. Sometimes Bowerbirds can be seen breaking stems off the sedges for bower building, recently Magpie-lark have been collecting feathers and mud from among the moss.

For someone like myself who wants to watch and observe our local wildlife, the addition of a pond has been very rewarding.

The bones of this garden were already here when a new owner purchased this property last year. A previous client of mine, I wasn't surprised to be here ripping out the remaining lawn and filling the garden with even more native plants.

Its been about 8 months since the last major round of planting. The garden is filling in nicely and looks pretty good in the afternoon light.

About 2 years since the back corner of this Balgownie backyard was put together. We loaded a heap of colourful sandstone boulders into the slope to create some fun planting pockets above a granite pad. We intentionally created a rock that doubles as a seat and a number of crevices to support native pollinators and reptiles. Fair to say that the space is filling in nicely.

This Menai garden was installed a little over a year ago. Kath Gadd designed a full front yard makeover as well as some gardens out the back. Left wanting more, the client had us back to add another garden and space for a firepit.

Sandstone, a fun granite path and loads of colourful native plants. With some time this garden will hopefully play a role in supporting local wildlife.

Beautiful spaces that attract pollinators, birds, frogs is totally worth it.... Creating those spaces in your own garden is pretty rad too.
