Want to make your home feel bigger without necessarily adding more floor space?

Look up! 👀

One of our favourite design features to incorporate into our builds is extra ceiling height paired with highlight windows. You’ll spot this little trick in quite a few of our projects, and for good reason!

It’s a clever way to create a sense of space, bringing in more natural light and making a room feel bigger without adding extra square metres to your floor plan. We love how the extra height through the living and dining areas creates interest both inside and out.

Our tip: When planning your new home, don’t just think about how much floor space you need. Think about how you can make that space feel bigger, brighter and more open.

Because sometimes it’s not about building bigger, it’s about building smarter. 🙌

Your entryway deserves a little love too.

It’s where you dump the keys, take off your jacket, kick off the shoes and yell “We’re home!” approximately 47 times before anyone answers. 😂

But it’s also the first impression of your home.

We believe in incorporating little design details that make these everyday spaces feel a bit special. Here, it’s the natural light from the skylight, warm timber tones and custom joinery that bring everything together.

Nothing over the top. Just thoughtful design that makes a difference.

When space is tight, good planning matters even more.

This bathroom isn’t huge, but it doesn’t feel like anything has been squeezed in as an afterthought.

The bath sits neatly at the end, the shower shares the space, the toilet is tucked away to the side and the skylight brings in plenty of natural light.

Then you’ve got the warmer walnut timber tones and simple, neutral tiles keeping everything feeling calm rather than busy.

That’s one of the things we think is important when building a home. You need to think about how the space needs to function before worrying about how it looks.

Because in a smaller bathroom, a few centimetres here or there can make a big difference to how the whole room works.

Get the layout right, make the most of the space you have, then let the finishes do their thing.

Small bathroom. Good planning. No wasted space.

We know… when you’re building a new home, landscaping is probably pretty low on the list and frankly an after thought if you’ve got anything left in the budget.

But honestly, we think it should be part of the plan from the start.

That little side space you think is “just a walkway” can actually become one of your favourite spots. A veggie garden, lush planting, a little bench, somewhere for the kids… even a sneaky coffee spot. ☕️

And your backyard? Don’t just think “big grass area.” Think about how you’ll actually use it.

A spot for the BBQ.
A fire pit.
A place for the kids.
Somewhere to sit in the winter sun.
A shady spot for summer.

Little zones = a backyard you actually live in all year round.

Plus, planning it early means you don’t move into your beautiful new home and immediately think… “Righto, now we have to tackle THAT.” 😂

Build the house. Plan the garden. Make the whole thing feel like home the moment you get the keys 🌿🏡

This kitchen is a pretty good example of why you don’t need to play it safe with finishes.

Our clients wanted natural textures, warmth and plenty of personality and we think they’ve done an awesome job choosing all of these finishes themselves.

The stone.
The timber.
The tiles.
And that limewash.

And we reckon they nailed it.

What is our favourite detail?

The limewash.

Rather than just putting it on a feature wall, the clients decided to carry it across the rangehood and upper walls too.

It gives the space that soft, slightly imperfect texture that works so well with the stone and timber.

Nothing feels too matchy-matchy.

But somehow, it all works.

And that’s probably one of the biggest things we’d suggest when you’re choosing finishes for a new home.

Don’t try to make everything match.

Instead, think about how the materials will sit together.

If you’ve got a smooth stone, maybe bring in some timber.

If your cabinetry is quite simple, let the splashback or walls bring in some texture.

And always look at your samples together before making the final call.

Because sometimes the finish you weren’t 100% sure about…

ends up being the one that makes the whole room.

And this kitchen?

It’s only brick… right? 👀

Not quite.

For this facade, we wanted to keep things simple, but still give the home a bit of personality.

Our clients chose a pretty classic combination of Jindy white PGH Bricks , white cladding and timber.

But then we changed up how we used the brick.

Instead of the traditional brick stack, we went vertical.

And honestly, it makes a bigger difference than you’d think.

It gives the facade a more modern feel and adds some really nice texture without having to throw another five materials at it.

Because sometimes you don’t need more features.

You just need to use the materials you’ve already chosen a little differently.

A few things to consider when choosing your facade:

Look at how materials are installed, not just what they look like.

Think about texture as well as colour.

Put your selections together before you lock anything in (preferably in natural light).

And don’t be afraid to do something slightly different with a pretty standard material.

That’s often where the best design choices happen.

This is the kind of detail we love in a custom home.

Nothing too over the top.

Just a few well-thought-out choices that make the home feel like it belongs to the people who live in it.

Don’t build someone else’s house.

It sounds obvious, but when you’re building, it’s so easy to get caught up in what everyone else is doing.

The latest trend.
The house you saw on Instagram.
What your friend just built.

But your home should feel like you.

That’s what we love about this one.

The natural textures and warmth in the kitchen.

The clean, simple facade.

The moody brown lounge room that brings plenty of personality into the home.

And the soft, earthy bathroom that feels like a little retreat.

None of it feels like it was chosen just because it’s on trend.

And that’s probably one of our biggest tips when you’re building — don’t try to make every room look the same.

Choose the colours, textures and materials you genuinely love, then find ways to make them work together throughout the home.

Because that’s the whole point of building custom.

You get to make the decisions.

And sometimes it’s those little decisions that make a house feel like home.

This room is a pretty good example of what happens when you let a bit of personality into a home.

Our clients wanted this space to feel warm, moody and a little different so they went all in with colour drenching.

The walls, ceiling and arch are all brought together in the same deep tone, to create that warm and homely feeling rather than having the ceiling and walls feel like separate elements.

Then there’s the painted rectangular detail around the arch. A small touch, but one that adds another layer of personality without needing to introduce another material or feature.

And that’s what we love about building custom homes.

It doesn’t always have to be about following what’s currently popular. Sometimes the best choices are the ones that feel like you. After all the choices that you love the most that best fit your style are the ones that never get old and dated.

Our clients had the idea. We helped bring it to life.

And yes… sometimes a room can be bloody beautiful because it’s dark, moody and full of colour not just white and bright 🤎.

This one started a little differently.

Our clients originally came to us after engaging a builder for a house & land package. But, after seeing our Oak Farm project, and slipping into our DM’s asking about the Venetian plaster finishes, something clicked.

They realised they wanted something a little more them. They loved the warmth of the textures, the natural materials, the way the light moved through the spaces and the feeling it gave them, but they wanted to create their own version. They wanted a home designed around their young family, their individual style and their split-level block, without going double storey.

They were also worried and hesitant to engage a custom builder because they thought that building a custom home would mean blowing the budget.

So we worked together to find clever ways to save where it mattered less, while investing in the details that mattered most.

And the result? A home that feels considered, personal and completely theirs.

Because custom doesn’t have to mean expensive.

It means creating a home around your block, your family, your style and your budget.
