Watch the outback get behind its locals in the community!!!
🎶 A new two-day music festival planned for the Quamby Pub is at risk of not going ahead, with organisers struggling to secure enough funding, sponsorship and ticket sales.
Mount Isa Outback Events organiser Evan Harney created Detour Festival: Quamby Edition to give North West audiences something different closer to home, while also putting local musicians on a bigger stage.
The festival is planned for October 3 and 4 and will feature live bands, solo artists and DJs, including Cloncurry band The Breakaways, Rockstomp, Burnt Horizon and local DJs.
Food trucks and multiple bars are also planned, with buses running from Mount Isa and Cloncurry and camping available at Quamby.
Mr Harney said people in the North West often had to travel thousands of kilometres — and spend thousands of dollars — to attend major music events elsewhere.
“Out here, there’s not that much to do. Our opportunities are very limited,” he said.
“So this is just another opportunity that I don’t think that people should pass up.”
He said the idea grew from conversations with the owners of the Quamby Pub, with organisers hoping the event could eventually become an annual festival if the first one succeeds.
