We get it. We’re homeowners too.

Five years ago, we bought a fixer-upper and, with four young kids running amuck through the house anyway, we’re actually glad we didn’t rush to renovate.

Living in our home for the last five years has taught us a lot.

We’ve figured out where the natural light is missing, just how crap our 50-year-old windows are, how little insulation we have (and how much that shows up on the electricity bill), where we need more storage, which spaces don’t work for our family… and just how questionable some of the previous owner’s DIY jobs were 🫣🫣

We’ve had five years to really understand how our family home works before we start making renovation plans.

And when we do eventually renovate, we’ll have a much clearer idea of where to invest, what we can live without and what will genuinely make our home better.

So if you’re thinking about a home renovation, don’t underestimate the value of living in your home first, if you can.

Notice the light. The airflow. The temperature. The little frustrations. The things that work really well.

It’s given us a pretty good idea of what we want to change and what we definitely don’t need to
