DOES NEW EQUIPMENT NEED TESTING???

Short answer is no, but it still needs to be tagged and logged.

It's first worth mentioning that any newly purchased equipment does not need to be tested. However, it will still need to be visually inspected and tagged.

The correct tag to use in this circumstance is one that states its ‘New to Service’. This particular test tag indicates that the item has not been tested and will require testing at a further date.

Specifically, this test tag should include the following information:

Wording: "new to service"
Date of entry to service
Date when next test is due
Statement: This appliance has not been tested in accordance with AS/NZS 3760
With regards to regular test tags, they will also require certain information to be filled out as a minimum.

As a whole, ensure you're using New to Service test tags (shown below) on all new equipment to ensure you stay compliant with AS/NZS 3760 Standard.

Hi everyone, I’d like to introduce myself and let you all know I’m now offering my Electrical Testing and Tagging services for anyone who requires testing and tagging under the Worksafe SA standard AS/NZS 3760:2010

My name is Ash, I’ve lived in SA my whole life and worked in the hospitality and horticultural industries. I have nationally recognised qualifications in electrical testing and tagging and use the latest calibrated equipment to provide a fast and professional service.

Did you know it’s a requirement under Work Health and Safety Legislation that portable devices (any electrical item that plugs into an electrical socket) are free from defect. Compliance to AS/NZS 3760:2010 is one method of demonstrating Work Health and Safety Legislation compliance.

If you are a PCBU (person conducting business undertaking) in South Australia you must make sure that electrical equipment is regularly inspected and tested by a competent person if the electrical equipment is:
• supplied with electricity through an electrical socket outlet; and
• used in an environment which exposes the equipment to operating conditions that are likely to result in damage to the equipment or a reduction in its expected life span, including conditions that involve exposure to moisture, heat, vibration, mechanical damage, corrosive chemicals or dust.

In simplistic words it means you need to get any electrical items that have a power lead tested and tagged to comply with Worksafe SA requirements. If someone was to be injured or a fire was to start in your place of business or from using an electrical item you supply WITHOUT a current test tag you can be held liable for injury or death. Don’t risk it, get your items tested now!

Items requiring testing include but are not limited to :

Computers
Monitors
Kettles
TV’s
Lamps
Cash registers
Fridges
Chargers
Kitchen appliances
Workshop power tools
Vacuum cleaners
Extension leads

We offer testing and tagging services and supply official documentation of all items tested, what tests were completed, date and re-test dates, we use heavy duty tags and operate in a timely and professional manner. Our equipment is modern and always in current calibration.
