What actually happens to your excess solar? ☀️⚡
When your solar system is producing more electricity than your home is using, that extra energy has to go somewhere.
First, your home uses the solar power it needs in real time. This is called self-consumption, and it is usually where solar delivers the most value.
If you have a battery, any excess solar can then be used to charge it, giving you stored energy to use later when the sun goes down.
Once your home is covered and your battery is full, any remaining solar can be exported back to the grid, depending on your system setup and energy retailer.
So the goal is not just to generate more solar, it is to make better use of the energy you are already producing.
