This house started with a familiar Brief, picture of a “white picket fence” home via whatsapp, sent from thousands of miles away.
The client and his siblings had spent over three decades in Canada, building a life there with their families. When it came to reimagining their ancestral home, their vacation home in rural Bangladesh, the instinct was to recreate what felt known, stable, and complete.
But that raised a simple question for us: why recreate a life you already live, when you can reconnect with one you left behind?
This project became less about importing an image, and more about rediscovering a place. We worked hard toward a home that belonged to its context, rooted in material, climate, and memory; while still offering the comfort and functionality of a modern house. A house that doesn’t sit on the land, but grows from it.
It wasn’t always smooth. There were long conversations, disagreements, moments where we didn’t quite see eye to eye. Sometimes it even went too far. But those are often the projects that stay with you. The ones where both sides push, question, and care deeply.
We at HATCH feel, what emerged is not just a house, but a bridge, between past and present, between distance and belonging, between aspiration and identity.
It’s a reminder that architecture isn’t just about building spaces. It’s about making place. And that place, when done right, quietly holds people closer to where they truly belong.
