BUILDING IS CRAFTING
An Exhibition of Craft and Process

Exhibition of works from the Bengal Institute Workshop conducted by Salauddin Ahmed, Mohammed Emran Hossain, and Wakilur Rahman in December 2024.

“Building is Crafting” speaks to the essence of making. Craft is the convergence of technique, material, tradition, and innovation. Beyond skill, craftsmanship also carries questions of value, meaning, and inspiration. What internal and collective processes lead a designer, artist, or artisan to shape an idea into form and to craft it?

This exhibition is the culmination of a two-week, multidisciplinary workshop that brought together master craftsmen, designers, and participants in a hands-on exploration of making. Participants engaged with design fundamentals, visited local craft practices, reviewed traditional methods, and examined the relationships between material, making, and meaning. The final result was the crafting of a chair. From idea to ex*****on, each full-scale chair displayed at the exhibition represents not just a physical object but a journey of learning, observing, experimenting, and understanding. The works invite viewers to reflect on the phenomenology of making and the shared human impulse to shape the world through craft.
