A new residential concept in harmony with nature and urban development.

Construction of Waldo has started. The first concrete has been poured, marking the start of the new structure.
The design consists of one volume along the street, complemented by two transversal wings that enclose a green courtyard. At the edge of the block, the volumes connect to the Bos van Loos, allowing architecture and landscape to flow into one another.
A clear grid of brickwork and architectural concrete defines the façade. Recessed volumes at roof level create a gradual transition towards the scale of the street.

De werf van Waldo is gestart. De eerste beton is gestort en de opbouw van de nieuwe structuur is ingezet.
Het ontwerp bestaat uit één volume langs de straatzijde en twee transversale bouwdelen die samen een groene binnenruimte omsluiten. Aan de rand van het bouwblok sluiten de volumes aan op het Bos van Loos, waardoor architectuur en landschap in elkaar overvloeien.
Een helder raster in baksteen en architecturaal beton bepaalt het gevelbeeld. Terugliggende volumes aan de daklijn zorgen voor een geleidelijke overgang naar de Schaal van de straat.

Redevelopment of an existing site into a co-living concept.

The former office site in the heart of Antwerp’s fashion district is being redeveloped into a mixed-use urban project combining retail, co-living and residential functions. The historic structure and façades are retained wherever possible and complemented by new interventions, including a CLT structure on the roof.
The combination of existing building structures and different construction techniques, from concrete pot-and-beam systems to CLT, makes ’t Meuleken an interesting exercise in transformation and reuse. At the same time, the intervention opens up new perspectives across the city, with views towards the Cathedral of Our Lady, the Boerentoren and Antwerp’s skyline.

De voormalige kantoorsite in het hart van het Antwerpse modekwartier wordt herontwikkeld tot een gemengd stadsproject met retail, co-living en residentiële functies. De historische structuur en gevels worden maximaal behouden en aangevuld met nieuwe ingrepen, waaronder een CLT-structuur op het dak.
De combinatie van bestaande bouwstructuren en verschillende bouwtechnieken, van potten en balken tot CLT, maakt van ’t Meuleken een interessante oefening in transformatie en hergebruik. Tegelijk opent de ingreep nieuwe perspectieven op de stad, met zicht op de Onze-Lieve-Vrouwekathedraal, de Boerentoren en de Antwerpse skyline.

The maypole marks the highest point reached in the structural construction of Woonhof aan de Leie in Kortrijk. This centuries-old building tradition symbolizes an important milestone in the construction process: the main structural framework has been completed, and the project has reached its highest point.
With this milestone, Woonhof aan de Leie continues to take shape as a sustainable residential development featuring nearly zero-energy (NZEB) apartments (E-level E30 or lower), a green park garden along the banks of the Kleine Leie, and architecture that is carefully integrated into its surroundings.
The maypole ceremony was attended by the project developers, VL-Holding and Bermaso, represented by Marc Vanden Abeele and Painblanc, as well as representatives of the City of Kortrijk, including Mayor Ruth Vandenberghe and Aldermen Hannelore Vanhoenacker and Wout Maddens.

De meiboom markeert het hoogste punt van de ruwbouw van Woonhof aan de Leie in Kortrijk. Deze eeuwenoude bouwtraditie symboliseert een belangrijke fase in het bouwproces: de draagstructuur is voltooid en het project bereikt zijn hoogste punt.
Woonhof aan de Leie evolueert daarmee verder naar een duurzame woonomgeving met BEN-appartementen (E-peil E30 of lager), een groene parktuin aan de oevers van de Kleine Leie en een architecturale integratie binnen de omgeving.
De meiboomviering vond plaats in aanwezigheid van de bouwheren VL-Holding en Bermaso, vertegenwoordigd door Marc Vanden Abeele en Painblanc, en het stadsbestuur van Kortrijk, met burgemeester Ruth Vandenberghe en schepenen Hannelore Vanhoenacker en Wout Maddens.

At BINST ARCHITECTS, we approach form as a process of design research. The formal anatomy of a building reveals the thinking behind the design, yet often remains abstract on a screen. A physical model makes scale, proportion, and the relationship between volume and context tangible.
That is why the physical model remains an essential part of our design process. It helps us refine form to its essence and makes the spatial qualities of a design more legible. By combining 3D printing with refined manual craftsmanship, a digital design becomes a physical object that can be explored from every angle.
The model of the new REO Auction House reveals its layers, spatial coherence, and design intentions, making the project more understandable for everyone involved.

Bij BINST ARCHITECTS behandelen we vorm als ontwerpend onderzoek. De vormelijke anatomie van een gebouw vertelt veel over de gedachte achter het ontwerp, maar blijft op een scherm vaak abstract. Een fysieke maquette maakt schaal, verhouding en de relatie tussen volume en context tastbaar.
Daarom blijft de maquette een essentieel onderdeel van ons ontwerpproces. Ze helpt ons de vorm te verfijnen tot haar essentie en maakt de ruimtelijke kwaliteiten beter leesbaar. Door 3D-printing te combineren met verfijnde manuele afwerking krijgt een digitaal ontwerp een fysieke vorm die vanuit elke hoek kan worden onderzocht.
De maquette van het nieuwe REO Veilinghuis toont hoe gelaagdheid, ruimtelijke samenhang en ontwerpintenties helder afleesbaar worden en een project begrijpbaar maken voor iedereen die erbij betrokken is.

9-tonne architectural concrete arches, right in the heart of the Meir.

The architectural concrete arches of the iconic façade were successfully lifted and installed on Belgium’s busiest shopping street. An impressive heavy-lifting operation that marks another major milestone in the realization of this ambitious project on the former Belgacom site in Antwerp.
The building will accommodate KdG’s new campus as well as the world’s largest ZARA store. By combining new construction with the adaptive reuse of three historic buildings, the project creates a unique urban ensemble where education, retail, and heritage come together in the heart of Antwerp.

De architecturale betonnen bogen van de iconische gevel werden succesvol gehesen en geplaatst in de drukste winkelstraat van België. Een indrukwekkende hijsoperatie die een nieuwe mijlpaal markeert in de realisatie van dit ambitieuze project op de voormalige Belgacom-site in Antwerpen.
Het gebouw zal onderdak bieden aan de nieuwe campus van KdG en de grootste ZARA ter wereld. Door nieuwbouw te combineren met de herbestemming van drie historische panden ontstaat een uniek stedelijk ensemble waar onderwijs, retail en erfgoed samenkomen in het hart van Antwerpen.

A new first stone laying marks the start of construction for Park Kauwlei!

Het woonproject tussen de Kauwlei en het Broekbos omvat 68 appartementen, verdeeld over vier meergezinswoningen, en acht eengezinswoningen. De gebouwen volgen het natuurlijke reliëf van de site, die een hoogteverschil van circa 3,80 meter kent. De meergezinswoningen zijn opgevat als doorzonappartementen en worden ingeplant met aandacht voor open ruimte en zichtlijnen naar het Broekbos.
Bijzondere aandacht ging uit naar het beheersen van hemelwater, met maximaal hergebruik van regenwater en verschillende infiltratievoorzieningen op de site. De woonentiteiten behalen een E-peil van E20.

The residential development between Kauwlei and Broekbos comprises 68 apartments distributed across four apartment buildings and eight single-family houses. The buildings follow the site's natural topography, which features a level difference of approximately 3.8 metres. The apartment buildings are designed as dual-aspect units and positioned with attention to open space and views towards Broekbos.
Particular attention has been given to stormwater management, through the extensive reuse of rainwater and the integration of multiple infiltration measures across the site. The residential units achieve an E-level of E20.

“The Antwerp” - the carpet collection by Luc Binst and Wool & Wire, presented during Antwerp Design Week.

For the design of "The Antwerp", Luc Binst started from the façade of the Aequor building on Antwerp’s Eilandje. What was originally conceived as architecture is given a new material expression in fibre.
"The Antwerp" explores how architecture can move across scales and disciplines. Rhythm, structure and scale shift from façade to rug, while the same design language takes on a new context.
Together with Wool & Wire, this architectural language has been translated into a collection of natural fibres, handcrafted in Belgium.

Voor het ontwerp van "The Antwerp" vertrok Luc Binst vanuit de gevel van het Aequor-gebouw op Het Eilandje in Antwerpen. Wat oorspronkelijk werd ontworpen als architectuur, krijgt hier een nieuwe materialiteit in vezel.
"The Antwerp" onderzoekt hoe architectuur zich kan verplaatsen tussen schalen en disciplines. Ritme, structuur en schaal verschuiven van gevel naar tapijt, waarbij dezelfde vormentaal een nieuwe context krijgt.
Samen met Wool & Wire werd deze architecturale taal vertaald naar een collectie van natuurlijke vezels, ambachtelijk vervaardigd in België.

Restoring the strength of an industrial past through refined contemporary materiality.

The materiality of the former ATEA factory is rooted in the preservation of its industrial character, with the historic façade acting as a defining structural and visual element of the design. Existing brick structures and robust materials are kept visible and carefully restored, ensuring the legibility of the original building remains intact.
New interventions are deliberately restrained in their material expression and carefully attuned to the existing fabric. This creates a clear dialogue between old and new, where contemporary additions integrate into the existing heritage without overpowering it. The result is a respectful balance between preservation, restoration, and contemporary insertion.

De materialisatie van de voormalige ATEA-fabriek vertrekt vanuit het behoud van het industriële karakter en de historische gevel als dragend element van het ontwerp. Bestaande baksteenstructuren en robuuste materialen blijven zichtbaar en worden zorgvuldig gerestaureerd, waardoor de leesbaarheid van het oorspronkelijke gebouw behouden blijft.
Nieuwe toevoegingen zijn in hun materiaalkeuze ingetogen en afgestemd op het bestaande geheel. Zo ontstaat een duidelijke dialoog tussen oud en nieuw, waarbij de nieuwe ingrepen zich voegen naar het bestaande patrimonium zonder het te overschaduwen. Het resultaat is een respectvolle balans tussen behoud, herstel en hedendaagse toevoeging.
