architectesassoc+ Creating architectural stories where design meets purpose and cities find their soul.

« Le propre de tout être devenu Humain est sa conscience de l’Autre. »

Like any creative act, architecture requires an ethic, a responsible commitment to the community:
« The essence of becoming Human is the consciousness of the Other. »

And our environment, staging our engaged interactions, is mutating: both literally and figuratively. Today, half of the Earth’s inhabitants live in urban setti

ngs, yet so far we cannot offer a credible solution to the sheer scale of the situation. It is therefore paramount that our modes of thinking integrate this context to its full extent… and in doing so address the diverse echelons wherein architect and urban planner work hand in hand: thus a city becomes a collective body of work in which our fundamental human right to live together with dignity notwithstanding our differences is upheld, where rules are necessary but do not constitute a guaranty of success, and where we are once again put face to face with real people and their real capacity for creating real things… for getting things done. architectesassoc+ wishes to accompany this evolution, with the aim of contributing pragmatically and without sectarianism to a sustainable environment in all its aspects. The studio thus aims at a generous, altruistic reflection at the service of present and future generations. This is reflected in the team’s broad outlook, essentially tapping into the wealth of exchanges encouraged between all players throughout the construction process… and equally, into each actor’s respective competencies. The studio is composed of professionals who employ their talents and skills to bring to life novel, flexible, concrete visions in architecture, based on their hands-on experience. Synergies and collaborations with other essential players of the building process (engineers, builders, urbanists, scenographers, artists, photographers, …) are encouraged to prosper thereby embracing the complexity and ambiguity of today’s society.

◄ MAKING TIME DIALOGUE

Just a few minutes from Luxembourg City’s train station, UNICITY rises in a neighbourhood undergoing profound transformation.

The project starts from a fragment of memory: the classified industrial façades, witnesses of an urban landscape shaped by commercial and manufacturing activities.

Rather than freezing this heritage, the project embraces it as an anchor point.

The restored façades form the base of a new architectural composition. Above them, a contemporary extension with curved lines reinterprets the Art Deco language. Its façade, wrapped in a mobile, motorized golden mesh, filters light and gives the building a shifting presence throughout the day.

Two buildings create a single urban gesture. The streetside volume accommodates residential units and retail within a white glazed brick envelope. The renovated plant hosts administrative spaces organized around a luminous atrium, designed to offer flexibility and comfort.

Between them, the former parking lot disappears, giving way to a pedestrian plaza, a new urban room where flows, uses, and perspectives converge.

UNICITY does not seek to reproduce the past, nor to erase it. The project proposes a different approach: letting eras coexist to create a contemporary piece of the city.

An architecture that listens.
An architecture that connects.
An architecture that remembers — while moving forward.

As 2026 begins, we’re reflecting on a question that has guided much of our work this past year: What is the world we want to construct?

At architectesassoc⁺, our answer continues to be: a world built around 'enough'.

Not more, not less - but balanced. Between social needs and ecological limits. Between existing resources and future resilience. Between precision and generosity.

This idea takes shape in frameworks like Doughnut Economics and the SER model (Sufficiency, Efficiency, Renewables), but we see it most clearly in practice:

→ In projects like Royal Mint, where 80% of a concrete structure was retained and transformed with biobased materials
→ In Elia Service Center Kruisem, where wood construction and water resilience lead the way
→ In Unicity Luxembourg, where reciprocity with the urban fabric takes precedence over footprint

We’ve put these ideas into words - and into context - in our latest long read: https://mailchi.mp/14f32d0b4440/architectesassoc-competitions-projects-progress-13878821

And in 2026, the trajectory continues - towards regenerative design, with projects like Dames Blanches and NOR.Bruxsels challenging us to go beyond low impact.

Sufficiency is not about doing less. It’s about doing better. With care, clarity, and long-term thinking.

Thank you to our collaborators, clients, peers, and team for building this future with us.

We’re pleased to announce that our project Elia Service Center Kruisem has been nominated for the Climate Future Award at the 2025 Belgian Construction Awards.

This nomination highlights one of the project’s defining features:
a charred bamboo façade (Shou Sugi Ban) - a durable, carbon-storing, circular material choice that offers fire resistance, longevity, and minimal environmental impact.

Its deep, dark, glossy finish is not just an aesthetic gesture, but a deliberate response to climate-conscious construction. Designed as a passive office combined with low-energy logistics and modular prefabrication, the Elia Service Center represents a forward‑looking approach to building sustainably and responsibly.

We’re proud to announce that ROYAL MINT has been awarded the Health & Comfort prize at the Green Solutions Awards 2024–2025, organised by Construction21.

A substantial refurbishment of Brussels’ former Royal Mint, the project exemplifies what we believe architecture should aim for today: transformation with intent.

Working with a light-filled timber structure inside a retained brutalist shell, ROYAL MINT shows that meaningful impact comes not from building more, but from building better.

A warm thank you to our collaborators and client Befimmo, and to our design and engineering partners WOW engineering and Arcadis, as well as Louis De Waele for the ex*****on. Congratulations to all the teams behind the other winning projects.

PROJECT UPDATE: THÉMIS | Building permit granted ✅

We’re proud to announce that Thémis has officially received its building permit. Located along avenues Bourgeois and Cauchy, this large-scale urban development - currently in progress - is being developed for AG Real Estate and brings together a diverse and ambitious programme.

In close collaboration with DDS+, who are leading the residential component, we're designing the 19,500 m² of office space - a key element of the project. This office volume will be fully covered by a photovoltaic canopy, reinforcing the project’s focus on energy performance and long-term sustainability.

Altogether, Thémis includes offices, housing, retail, a day-care centre, community spaces, and extensive landscaping, with 33,000 m² above ground and 14,000 m² below. Engineering partners: EOLE, DUSS, and BSolutions.

A major step forward for a project aiming to shape a connected, inclusive, and future-oriented urban block.

ROYAL MINT | Pacheco Boulevard 32, 1000 Brussels

The ROYAL MINT project has officially entered Provisional Acceptance. The substantial refurbishment of the former Belgian Royal Mint into a multifunctional hub—including office space, co-living, and horeca - is a fact.

This transformation exemplifies our commitment to sustainable requalification. The design reimagines the interior with a light-filled timber structure, while carefully preserving the strong character of the brutalist volume.

The modular atrium façades allow for long-term functional flexibility, while the overall approach significantly reduces the project’s carbon footprint - proving that adaptive reuse can be both ambitious and responsible.
