Green hydrogen is moving from ambition to production in Belgium 🇧🇪.

At the Port of Zeebrugge, Hyoffwind is entering its final stretch before the first production of green hydrogen.

With a capacity of 25 MW, the plant is designed to produce around 3,700 tonnes of green hydrogen a year, primarily supporting the transition of heavy-duty transport.

For BESIX and BESIX Environment, Hyoffwind is also a good example of what integrated delivery means in practice. Together, our teams have delivered the project through a full design & build approach, bringing different areas of expertise together for a complex industrial facility.

First drive through the Scheldt Tunnel, with a rather special first passenger. 👑

King Philippe made the first public journey, travelling beneath the Scheldt from Antwerp’s Left Bank to the Right Bank 🇧🇪.

Colleague Jan Bauwens, Project Director, presented the project before guiding the delegation through the tunnel.

Behind that short drive are years are eight concrete tunnel elements, each 160 metres long and weighing around 60,000 tonnes. They were built in Zeebrugge, transported more than 100 km by water and immersed with precision in the Scheldt.

The royal visit provided a memorable moment. But this milestone belongs to the many people who have been working above and below the waterline to make the Scheldt Tunnel a reality! ✨

BESIX is delivering the tunnel for Lantis as part of TM COTU, together with Stadsbader Contractors, DEME and Jan De Nul, with BESIX Group entities BESIX Infra, BESIX Unitec and Franki Foundations contributing their specialist capabilities.

🇧🇪 Ghent’s newest landmark has a new name: the former Ringvaart Bridge is now officially known as the Pyramid Bridge 🎉

Last weekend, around 3,000 residents joined the inauguration celebrations for the new bridge, an impressive structure set to become part of everyday life in and around Ghent.

With its distinctive design, cycle highway connection and wildlife crossing, the bridge is an important part of the R4WO project, designed to make the ring road a safer, more efficient and more sustainable transport corridor.

BESIX and BESIX Infra are proud to contribute to the project as part of the BRAVO4 consortium. Together with our partners, we are helping design, build, finance and maintain the infrastructure over the long term.

Congratulations to everyone involved on reaching this important milestone.

How do you put 340 tonnes of steel back exactly where it belongs?

Very carefully.

After an extensive renovation in Vlissingen 🇳🇱, the first lock gate of the Krammersluizen complex travelled 70 kilometres across the waterways of Zeeland before returning to the lock. Measuring 26 metres by 4 metres by 12 metres and weighing 340 tonnes, moving it was already quite an operation.

The real challenge came next: lowering the gate back into the lock and positioning it underwater with millimetre precision. A spectacular operation in the photos.

For Rijkswaterstaat, BESIX NL is carrying out the renovation and modernisation of the Krammersluizen complex together with BESIX Unitec, Croonwolter&dros, DEMAKO, Smulders (Iemants) and Bosch Rexroth.

20 km done. Not a bad warm-up for what’s coming next. 😉

A few days ago, colleagues from BESIX France swapped their usual workplace for their running shoes to take on the 20 km de Paris 🇫🇷.

A great effort from the whole team. Congratulations to everyone who ran, supported and crossed that finish line! 👏

And there’s plenty more ground to cover for BESIX France in the months ahead. Some of it might involve runways. Some water. And definitely some serious engineering. 🛫🛥️🏗️

♻️ What happens to the sewage sludge produced by four million people?

Part of the answer is taking shape in the Port of Ghent. 🇧🇪

Construction is progressing on Aquafin’s new sludge mono-treatment plant. Once operational, it will recover energy and reusable raw materials from sewage sludge produced across Flanders.

The project is being delivered through FOSTER, the partnership between BESIX and Indaver, under a DBFMO contract.

BESIX is involved throughout: as a shareholder in the SPV, through the design and construction work delivered by the EPC team, and in the future operation and maintenance of the plant through FOSTER M&O.

We see delicate stitches between old and new.

In the heart of Antwerp 🇧🇪, we are transforming a former telecom complex into a new campus and 14,000 m² of retail space.

The new structure is being built 𝗶𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗮𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱 the existing one, while the parts that remain are continuously supported and stabilised.

This forest of temporary steel props keeps the structure stable as parts are removed, new elements are introduced and loads are progressively transferred.

Renovation can look messy... but behind that apparent chaos is a carefully engineered sequence!

How do you prepare to install a 340-tonne lock gate underwater? You practise the operation on land first.

In Vlissingen 🇳🇱, our teams have been rehearsing the installation of a refurbished 340-tonne lock gate for the Krammer Locks.

Precision is essential as the final operation will take place underwater in tidal conditions. That makes it vital to refine the method and ensure the whole team works in sync.

BESIX NL is leading the renovation with BESIX Unitec, Croonwolter&dros, DEMAKO, Smulders (Iemants) and Bosch Rexroth, on behalf of Rijkswaterstaat.

What does a construction site look like 18 metres below Copenhagen? 🇩🇰

Last Sunday, visitors to the Nordhavn Tunnel found out.
They descended into the excavation pit for a close-up view of the 1.4-kilometre tunnel taking shape beneath the harbour, reaching depths of up to 18 metres.

Above ground, twelve Danish street artists had transformed the site fencing into an outdoor gallery. Visitors could even pick up a spray can and add some colour of their own.

A rare chance to step inside a major infrastructure project and meet the people building it.

Thanks to the Danish Road Directorate, the BESIX - MT Højgaard joint venture, the artists and everyone who came along.
