Ali Cherri's temporary school is built around mud and clay. In his work, these materials are never neutral but convey memory, violence, and transformation. Trained as a visual artist and filmmaker, Cherri has long worked with earth, debris, and archaeological fragments, exploring the history written...

Done! Another beautiful edition of our Summer School, co-organised by BC materials and Faculté d'Architecture La Cambre Horta de l'ULB. It gathered about 35 participants, sometimes coming from as far as Australia! The tutors' team was a combination of BC interns and external professionals: Jasper van der Linden and Nijs de Vries for the blocks workshop, Atelier Timur Ersen architecte & Atelier Kara artisan pisé and Bregt Hoppenbrouwers for the rammed earth one, and Arianna Fabrizi and Anis Saoudi for the plasters one. They devised interesting briefs for these techniques, focussing on parabolic arches for the two first ones and on some inspiration from the sgraffiti (frequent in Brussels) for the plasters. Other novelty: for the first time, the visits day could take place entirely in the Brussels region, considering BC starts to have enough projects here, either as an architect or as a supplier! A very good sign of the spreading of raw earth in our local architectural production, of course. See you at the next edition! And in the meantime, keep posted for suggestions of other interesting workshops…
