I got this from the Herman Miller legend Cal Rotman on my 2023 run : he was the dedicated employee who handpicked the rosewood veneers for the lounge chairs . He even met Charles and Ray when they walked the factory floors .

It had veneer damage to the headrest and that’s why we set it aside all this time .

Veneer is fixed , all parts repainted . Ready for you to enjoy this weekend .

There’s a saying “It takes a village to raise a child” .

And an extensive restoration sometimes feels the same way . We started out from scratch on this one : our intern Noémie did lots of research together with Australia and me, and Gerard did the dismantling, metalwork by Kristof and me , powdercoating and surface treatment by Peter and me , woodtreatment by , frame repairs Gerard and me , textile by , upholstery Vicky .i.k.w.e.r.k and Noémie , paintjob by Jan , mounting and me (with new old stock hardware we could acquire of a local hardware store that went out of business after nearly 100 years) , proffesional photos taken by and all communication of the entire process with our beloved client was done by Ingrid .consultancy .

Now, I’m probably still forgetting to mention a couple persons here but so far well over 30 skillful hands have worked on this one .
Our client was emotionally moved by the result , now they are off again to Indonesia .

Sometimes you come across fun stuff :
Take this 2nd gen LTR for instance . Mislabeled as a George Nelson design , or was it a practical joke of both designers ..? We can only fantasize about it , but I bet they both would have a laugh about it .

We have this beautiful bordeaux leather over rosewood lounge chair in which holds the perfect balance between classy and sassy . It’s got the perfect mixture of both worlds . It will give you this distinguished look but in such a subtle way it will envy people . We offer it ‘as is’ but I’m praying out loud to all the chairgods to please let me refinish this one . It’s rather hard to tell but it’s got a beautiful grain in the veneer which will set you out from the crowd . Her old bones are great . With the great help of my brother for construction , for windows and bespoke interior joinery , .official for the kitchen , and Roger Claes for all marble , Peter Thysbaert for tiling , K-punt for electricity , glass and mirrors by Wintermans glas , bespoke leather desk by and for all the final details .

I brought this 1949 transition model home with me all the way from Victoria, BC Canada : it’s one of the earliest Herman Miller models made but still with some Evans components . It’s got the 5th hole drilled in the frontlegs but not in the support . All original screws and the 2nd gen glides, lozenge style shockmount on the back , and beautiful riftsawn ash veneer in a honeycolored patina .

Anyways , it’s for sale .
