Brazilian resins history:

Sepá is a word used in the Yawanaka language, a resin extracted from a tree in the Amazon region called Vixu. The sepá has no time to be burned, that is, it can be used at any time of the day or night, as well as any day of the week.

In addition to being used in the annatto shape; it is widely used in the Yawanawa tradition in Uni rounds. Sepá is a sweet spirit from the forest; that with its perfume brings harmony, peace, beauty, lightness, charm to the circles of uni and its participants. Before the ceremonies, the shamans or men of medicine pray over the Sepá asking the good spirits and the ancestors to protect and bring good things in the round of uni.

During the wheels whenever the man of medicine feels that the vibrations of the ceremony are more charged, he asks for Sepá to pass to relieve and soften the vibrations of the work.

Furthermore, when the pressure of the uni is very strong on a person and that person is suffering, through the sepá one prays and asks that this spirit relieve the pressure of the Uni.
With the sepá resin, it is also possible to prepare an annatto paste for body paints that are red, as well as preparing black dyes with genipap and charcoal.
The two-color painting protects those who are painted from evil spirits.
