Do you know what this is?
That may not matter unless you're the contractor who has to carry equipment, materials and tools to the upper level....HOWEVER you will likely find out how much it COSTS!
When planning construction, be sure all temporary access costs are considered. Not every project will be suitable to use pieces of left over wood for temporary stairs/access ladders. That means that a daily or weekly rental of this temporary access is a part of cost that will be passed on to you, the project owner.
This client had to rent 7 of these for 3 months each at daily rates of a few hundred dollars each. $$$$
These are the costs that are often missed in simple 'guess-timating' and cost per square foot budgetting.
Be sure to involve a quantity surveyor or cost consultant BEFORE you start building so that you understand the TRUE cost of construction and the impact of "surprises" is minimal.
