Early impressions of the new Wendy’s Restaurant. Now complete with the familiar exterior finishes that conceal with CLT build within, this structure is The Bahamas’ first carbon negative restaurant building.
This structure utilizes 3,4 and 5-ply pressure treated CLT panels giving the building a wind tolerance close to 200mph and a fire rating that far exceeds the minimum requirements of The Bahamas’ building code.

One of the biggest benefits of using CLT is that the structure can be built quickly and efficiently. Because panels are designed and prefabricated for specific end-use application, they are shipped to the job site where they can be promptly lifted into place. Wall, floor and roof elements can be pre cut, including openings for doors, windows, stairs, service channels and ducts. This greatly reduces site time and results in lower capital costs and faster occupancy. CLTs structural performance and cost competitiveness allow it to compete directly with concrete and steel. Using mass timber as a structural material sequesters carbon and lowers overall emissions from a construction project. The first pressure treated Cross Laminated Timber structure is underway! We are so excited to see this structure taking shape on Bahamian soil! Concrete and steel have long been considered the two best materials for construction, but timber technologies have advanced beyond the capabilities of this combination. The panels are cut into sections and travel directly to the job site. The biggest element of cost savings associated with CLT is the remarkably short install timeline. Pictured above is the first series of panels being lifted and secured into it’s steel connectors. This technology makes the on-site construction schedule dramatically shorter, greatly reduces site noise and makes for minimal public disturbance no matter the scale. This project will be complete in a matter of weeks!
