I noticed Home Depot is stocking PVC expansion fittings now. They seem to be adding more electrical items, which is convenient when the supply houses are closed and you need something to keep the job moving.

Pennsylvania’s SB 1260 has been signed into law, establishing statewide licensing for electrical contractors and electricians.

I see this as a positive step toward more consistent standards. In areas without licensing requirements, it can feel like the Wild West, and customers may not know what qualifications to look for.

I’d also like to hear the other side. Could statewide licensing bring added costs or make it harder for small contractors and people entering the trade?

If you work in the electrical industry, are you licensed in your state? What do you see as the biggest benefits and drawbacks?

The Bahamas were beautiful—but apparently an electrician never really goes on vacation. 😂

While everyone else was taking pictures of beaches and palm trees, I was collecting pictures of these electrical installations.

Which one wins the “What were they thinking?” award?

If electrical work were only as easy as snapping your fingers! 🫰⚡️

New lights were installed and needed their own switch, which meant replacing the existing 2-gang switch box with a 3-gang box. The video transformation only takes a second—but there’s a little more work happening behind the wall!

Here’s one of the smaller details that goes into a professional EV charger installation.

Because this white conductor is being used as an ungrounded conductor on a 240V circuit—not as a neutral—it needs to be properly re-identified. I used the Rack-A-Tiers Mark My Wire to change it to red, creating a clean and permanent identification without wrapping it in electrical tape.

It’s a simple tool, but it makes the finished installation cleaner and easier to understand for anyone working on the circuit later.

Here’s another example of why electrical work should always be inspected carefully.

These individual conductors were run through the cabinet space completely unprotected before entering the electrical panel. Individual conductors must be installed using an approved wiring method, such as a properly installed raceway—not simply left exposed in free air.

Even if something appears to be working, that doesn’t mean it was installed safely or correctly.

One of the best investments I’ve made for my service van has been keeping a few Rack-A-Tiers Open Splice Junction Boxes in stock.

If you’ve spent any time troubleshooting in attics or older homes, you know there’s a good chance you’ll run into at least one exposed splice that was never installed in a proper junction box. Instead of making multiple repairs or replacing unnecessary wiring, these boxes provide a fast and professional solution for enclosing those existing splices.

It’s one of those products you don’t realize you need until you have it—and then you wonder how you ever worked without it.

If you’re an electrician, what’s one tool you never leave the shop without?

⚡ Can a soft start help your A/C run on a generator?

This was my first time installing a soft start on an air conditioning condenser, and I wanted to share what I learned.

A soft start reduces the inrush (startup) current of the compressor, making it much easier for a properly sized generator to start and run the air conditioner during a power outage. That can be a huge benefit for homeowners looking to keep their home comfortable without investing in an oversized generator.

I’m interested to see how it performs long-term, and I’d love to see someone like The Angry Sparky put one through independent testing to see how much of a difference it really makes.

Have you installed one before? I’d love to hear your experience in the comments.
