Recently, CEDA introduced assistance for poultry farmers. However, poultry owners claim that despite making several applications, their requests were turned down by by-law officers after being sent there by CEDA officers, who argued that existing regulations do not allow individuals to keep chickens in residential backyards. They further contend that they were advised to operate the business from designated agricultural land or farms instead.
Many criticized these restrictive laws, arguing that they pose obstacles to food security and will exacerbate poverty among individuals striving to improve their livelihoods.
