A contemporary Xaoo Safari Camp design concept by Vho’Malede, inspired by the natural beauty and tranquil character of the Okavango Delta.
The architectural approach embraces a light-touch relationship with the landscape, using raised timber platforms, expansive outdoor decks and open-sided spaces to create a seamless connection between the lodge and the surrounding water environment.
🌿 Architectural Character
The design combines natural timber, textured canvas, muted earth tones and lightweight structures to create an authentic safari aesthetic while maintaining a contemporary architectural language.
🪵 Material Expression
Exposed timber posts and decking provide warmth and a strong connection to nature, while the weathered wood character is intended to age naturally within the Delta environment. The canvas canopy introduces softness, shade and a distinctly safari-inspired architectural identity.
🌊 Waterfront Living
The lodge is elevated above the water, creating a series of interconnected decks that function as social spaces, viewing platforms and relaxation areas. The waterfront becomes an extension of the architecture rather than simply a backdrop.
☀️ Passive & Responsive Design
Large open areas encourage natural ventilation, daylight and uninterrupted views, while the deep canvas overhangs provide shade and protection from the elements.
🛶 Experiential Architecture
The boardwalk, lounge, bar, outdoor seating and waterfront deck are deliberately arranged to make the journey through the lodge part of the experience — moving from land, across the deck and ultimately towards the water.
