Sometimes it’s the smallest details that carry the most experience.

Three simple marks on the cutting edge of our excavator bucket. 60, 70 and 80 mm, each representing a standard paver thickness.

We use them against established finish elevations to help guide our preparation depths as we work.

It’s a simple little technique that’s become part of our everyday process. One of those things developed over years of working in the trade, learning, adapting and finding what works.

There’s always something to learn, and often it’s the little things worth sharing.

Apparently, this isn’t how they used to do it. 😂

The materials are in, the access is tight, and now there’s only one way out.

Working from the back, we level the bedding sand by hand, lay the interlock section by section, and build our way toward the exit.

The old boys might have a few questions about our methods. But there’s a method to the madness.

Just hope nobody forgot anything back there.

Who needs screed rails when you’ve got a skid of interlock?

Two straps, a beat-up sheet of plywood and a little creativity.

The big machine can lift it but can’t fit. The little machine can fit but can’t lift it.

So we drag it. And since we’re already making the trip, might as well pull some sand along the way.

Moving material and grading sand in the same pass. Not exactly in the manual, but it gets the job done.

Can’t buy this one.

So we built it.

Our homemade clamp was built for one job: moving sections of interlock without slowing down the install. It isn’t pretty, but it’s been earning its keep ever since.

Nine years later the colour tells one story. The lines tell another.

Sun, salt, snow and time have taken their toll on the surface, but look past the weathering. The borders are still where we left them. The bond is still running straight. The walkway is still doing its job.

A new installation can look good. Time tells you how it was built.

One wrong move and that’s a $1,000 mistake.

No marks. No measuring. Cut, check, scribe and fit.

You can’t be competitive in 2026 running every cut back to a table saw. Production cutting is about speed and precision working together. The less time wasted getting there, the more time you have to put into the details that actually matter.

Fast doesn’t mean rushed. It means practiced.
