Are you in your forever home but your deck is falling apart? Consider going with a composite material as it can last up to twice the life of pressure treated or cedar material.

-Maintenance free (no staining, sealing or painting)
-Many colour choices and grain patterns
-Durability (resists mold, rot, termites, and fading)
-Long term value

This deck maximized the allowable square footage on the lot for an accessory building at 26'×14'! The customer chose the highly recommended Trex Transcend Rope Swing as their main and stair decking colour. The picture frame, border, and skirt uses a more economical line, Trex Enhance Toasted Sand. Regal Ideas black powder coated aluminum railings were installed to continue the maintenance free trend. There's more than enough space on the deck to host, play, and relax. Even underneath the deck can be used for additional storage.

Since September we've been renovating two entire homes side by side from the 50s-60s, restarting from the studs on. Now that they're completely finished their renovations, each of their bathrooms are the best to show off for comparison to the original, and for the future posts to come.

During the renovation, we discovered that these bathrooms had major challenges and problems that had to be overcome such as:
-1 billion rusted nails in the subfloor and studs
-Rotted underlayment and subfloor
-Rotted exterior wall and rotted and closed-in window
-Squirrel nests in floor joists cavity
-No exterior wall framing/insulation
-Clogged main drains
-Missing/removed/destroyed floor joists
-And of course nothing original was level

These issues were a hint of things to come. Hopefully, you can see that we succeeded in correcting all these issues and some!

It doesn't look it outside, but spring is around the corner and the calendar is quickly filling up!

Here's a nice fence and deck combo we did at separate times in the summer. The rain really brings out the wood grain colour and does well in photos.

This was the first deck of the year... we have been so busy I figured it was time to catch up on posting. We completed it on an awesome April evening with the smell of BBQs in the air and a sunset in the background. Now, this customer has a great spot to enjoy both on their new 16'×16' deck!

In 2024, we had to take over another contractors work. Their work was poorly done, and they caused several issues, such as clogging the drains with plaster/debris, placing plumbing incorrectly, making leaky connections, and much much more. Fortunately, all of these issues were caught before we began the finish on the bathroom, and we saved this customer from a long headache.

It may not be bathroom season, but we still do them no matter the time of year!

Maybe you heard or saw: We recently took over/redid another contractors deck because of several building code errors. This is that deck, completed correctly. With that being said, we rarely show what's underneath the deck, and this is where the errors can begin.

Personally, I love the symmetry of how framing looks. Next time you look under your deck, look for all the various brackets, hangers, ties, post caps, posts bases, stringer hangers, lags, masonry wedges, and more. Many of these products are not necessary to pass the building code, BUT we build our decks well beyond the minimum standard. There are many ways to build a deck, but if you're missing many of these components, then perhaps it's time to give us a call!

Simpson Strong-Tie products and what they're used for:
-2"×8" Joist Hanger LUS28Z: ties joist to skirt
-Hurricane Tie H2.5AZ: ties joist to beam and prevents uplift
-Stair Stringer Tie LSCZ: allows hanging of stair stringers
-¼"×1½" Hex Head Screw SD9112R100: screws that are resistant to exterior weather and shearing. They fasten most of the brackets to the pressure treated
-¼"×2½" Hex Head Screw SD10212R100-R: same as above
-Knee Brace Stabilizer KBS1: brackets for bracing
-Adjustable Standoff Post Base ABA66Z: ties post to pier. 1" standoff prevents wood rot
-Post Cap/Base BCS2-3/6Z: ties post to beam
