Two weekends ago we opened the gates at two of our finished projects and shared what a season of work looks like once it’s finished. Good food, better company, and a chance to walk through the reasoning behind every stone we set and every plant we chose.

We talked about why native species carried the planting plans: they hold the soil on these shorelines, they feed the pollinators already living here, and they belong to this land in a way nothing imported ever will. We walked through the permitting process too, the part nobody sees but every project depends on.

Seeing you there, in the gardens, asking the right questions, reminded us why this work matters. Grateful for a community that cares this much about what grows here.

Time began in a garden. Thanks for helping us keep it that way

Limestone is not my favourite stone to work it, I'll be frank, if messes with the alkalinity of the system however if we can create deep cascading falls that circulate in the shade - it results in some beautiful mossy outcroppings that create an excellent natural Zen feeling. The balance happens in the hidden parts of the feature: the biofalls, the filters, and the PH balancers do the heavy lifting.

simulating a freshwater spring, this project took just 2 days to install. Affordable and low maintenance.

The great thing about a small stream is that it can meander a great distance and fill your garden with sound and movement. Much more affordable to install because large boulders aren't required to balance out the roaring movement of a large volume of water. Sometimes a small stream is the answer to a big void in the space. This stream moves over 1000 gallons from top to bottom but you'd never suspect that because it's quaint and humble. This client intends to add onto the feature as the years go on so we designed it with that in mind.

This is a water feature from 2 years ago but this week a client sent me a video of a cute little robin taking a bath. I'm reminded how vital water is in a garden, how it completes the circuit that nature needs to thrive and the peace we need to unwind.

Every area has it's own stone profile. The challenge we face as water feature artists is matching not only the existing landscape design aesthetic but also the stone profile we find in the outcroppings in that area. A subtle detail that can't be overlooked.

What many people don't know is that you can have a water feature indoors. Moss and other low light plants thrive in artificial light. This project is at the entrance of a health and wellness spa... very fitting!
