Back to looking the way that they were meant to look.

So much work goes into antique furniture. These chairs were built before foam and poly fiber batting were typically used to pad upholstered furniture. Instead, they're both padded with a combination of flax, horse hair and cotton batting molded and hand stitched to form the seats and backs. The seat cushion in the large flute back chair is filled with coil springs and covered in a thick layer of cotton batting.

Two more fine quality antique pieces leave my work shop with another 7 or 8 decades of use ahead of them.

A couple of 1980's Kroehler swivel rockers ready for another 35 - 40 years of use.

The high density seat foam was waiting for the cushion covers elsewhere.
*A good quality, high density foam seat cushion replacement can last for 10+ years, and bring an old seat back to it's original condition and comfort.

Before and after!

This 1970's gem came to me in it's original fabric and in amazing condition.
It left my shop with an updated skirt style and covered in a beautiful silky blue velvet.

The weight of a piece of furniture is a good indication of it's quality. The frame on this chair was constructed with hard wood, the foam was still dense and firm after all those years, the springs were thick heavy metal, and the fabric was also thick and heavy. This chair definitely weighed in and it was obviously a high quality piece.

Such a beautiful old parlor piece and family heirloom brought back to life.
The new fabric is the silkiest velvet I've ever worked with and I love the pattern and how it shimmers. 😍

That old thing!
What they dropped off vs. what they're picking up.

I have a love/hate relationship with antiques. By the time they reach me, they're dusty, dried out, worn out, rickety, splintered, and so full of tack holes that in some places there's barely any wood left to hold a staple.
But when it all starts to come together, starts taking shape and starts looking as fancy as it was meant to look... now, that's a great source satisfaction. New once more.

Silly me, I forgot to take a "before" picture 😏...

So picture this: originally, this run-of-the-mill, store bought chair had no skirts (legs exposed), and upholstered in run-of-the-mill beige faux suede microfiber fabric.
Stylish and popular for it's time, but seriously done to death! It was time to ditch that neutral shade microfiber fabric and replace it with this pretty sea foam green, tropical aquatic embroidered patterned fabric. The new skirt also adds to it's unique new look.

Now there's no other chair out there exactly like this one!
