Some things to consider during your spring clean-up, that may save you problems in future
🔹 Seal the "Dime-Sized" Gaps: A mouse can squeeze through a hole the size of a dime. Check your foundation and utility pipe entries. A mix of copper mesh, weather-resistant caulk, and expandable foam now saves a massive headache later. Don’t forget your doorsweeps, and screens.
🔹 The Fridge & Stove Slide:Crumbs behind appliances are hotspot for ants and cockroaches
🔹 Ditch the Cardboard: Swap basement cardboard boxes for plastic bins with locking lids. Mice love cardboard for nesting material, but they can't get through sealed plastic.
🔹 Gutter & Drainage Check: Clogged gutters create standing water—aka a mosquito nursery. Ensure downspouts are clear and directing water at least 3 feet away from your foundation to prevent dampness that attracts wood-destroying insects.
🔹 The "1-Foot" Rule: Trim shrubs and tree branches so they are at least 1 foot away from your siding. Think of these as "pest highways"
🔹 Manage the Yard: Keep vegetation low and trimmed to reduce tick and mosquito harbourage. Move firewood piles away from the house so you aren't hand-delivering carpenter ants to your doorstep.
