rcs began as a specialized retail contractor in 1996 doing “live” grocery store renovations for clients such as Pete Luckett of Pete’s Frootique and Sobeys Inc. Our passion for our work, and our treasured client relationships have enabled us to grow steadily since our inception. We now have a head office in Bedford, Nova Scotia and a regional office in Moncton, New Brunswick. We offer expanded works in office and leaseholds, base building, commercial and institutional re-construction as well as hospitality building and renovation.

🚧 Project Spotlight: RBC - Mount Pearl Branch Expansion
Location: Mount Pearl, Newfoundland and Labrador

At RBC's branch on Common Wealth Road in Mount Pearl, rcs construction completed a 3,875 sq. ft. renovation and expansion. The work joined the existing branch with the neighbouring unit by removing the dividing wall. The adjoining space received new finishes and mechanical and electrical work, while parts of the original branch were updated with ceilings, flooring, paint and furniture.

The important part of this renovation was making the expanded area function as one branch. Light, stone-look floor tile defines the main public routes, where customers move between the entrance, waiting area and service counters. Patterned carpet marks the workstation areas, giving staff and customers a clear transition from circulation space to seated service.

Glass-fronted rooms create separate places for one-to-one discussions. Frosted sections help screen direct views from shared areas without turning the rooms into solid, closed-off offices. The existing street-facing windows bring natural light to the waiting area, while the ceiling and electrical upgrades support the interior's day-to-day use.

Instead of focusing on individual decorative details, the finished layout balances an open public area with defined workstations and more private rooms. The construction and building-system work brought the new and existing spaces together at the same address.

🚧 Project Spotlight: Irving Goobies NL
Trans Canada Highway, Goobies, NL

Goobies has always been a junction, first for the railway, then for the lumber trade, and now for everyone crossing Newfoundland by road.

rcs construction completed a major project for Irving Oil there: demolishing and clearing the existing Big Stop site, then building a new 11,250 sf Irving travel centre from the ground up.

Inside, the Junction restaurant tells the town's story through its architecture. Dark timber brackets frame wood-slat ceiling canopies. Brick feature walls and reclaimed plank cladding surround a curved timber sawmill wheel. Upholstered booths and wood-look flooring warm the room. A heritage corridor with historical panels leads guests from the entrance to the dining room. On the retail side, the convenience store, coffee bar and hot food counter are laid out so customers can move through quickly.

Outside, a stone-accented gabled facade, fuel canopy and large parking area are sized for trucks and cars alike.

It all started in 1996 as Retail Construction Specialists, with a promise to deliver high-quality construction and superior client service. Since then we've grown from our first office on Morris Drive to offices in Halifax, Moncton and St. John's, serving clients across Atlantic Canada.
