Abundance Gardens is partnered with GoodFellas Landscaping, who have been serving Brampton and surrounding areas for over 10 years. WHAT INSPIRED THE CREATION OF ABUNDANCE GARDENS? Well, it is abundantly clear that due to greater demand and increased transportation costs, food is becoming more and more expensive. And we know that in order to properly care for our bodies, the land, and the birds and the bees, we should be eating organically grown fruits and vegetables. But the reality is that only a small percentage of the population can afford to buy organic food. Why should taking loving care of our bodies and the earth be a privilege available only to the rich? Added to this, with the world’s population now topping 7 billion, the space available to grow enough food to feed everyone is becoming increasingly limited. If we are to live in balance with the earth, we need to use land as efficiently as possible, so that there is enough of it left to grow trees that purify and cool the air and to provide shelter and food for all of earth’s creations – not just humans. The philosophy behind Abundance Gardens can be summed up in one simple phrase that we see “cropping” up all over the Internet... “GROW FOOD, NOT LAWNS!”
WHY EDIBLE LANDSCAPING? Why not just install a traditional square or rectangular vegetable garden? Again we come to the issue of the space available to us being at a premium these days. As cities and suburbs become more populated, the size of the typical property is shrinking. Many of us need all of the space available in the backyard for our children and pets to play safely, or to create a visually pleasing oasis to relax and unwind in. At the same time the space available in front yards often goes unused and is occupied by grass lawns and flower gardens which do not provide much except for something pretty to look at and a lot of unnecessary water waste. However we admit that there is not much curb appeal to the to the typical square plot vegetable garden! So that is why we came up with the concept of “edible landscaping”. Our designs will combine popular herbs and vegetables along with artistic focal points and flowers that serve as natural pesticides, to create a functional garden that will add beauty to your home, whether positioned in the front or back of your property.
