Big builds start with what goes underground. πŸ—οΈ

Our crew was on site at the Algonquins of Pikwakanagan First Nation's new Child and Family Well-Being Centre in Golden Lake last week for the delivery and placement of this precast concrete transformer vault. As you can see, the site is still very much in its early stages β€” but getting this vault in the ground is one of those foundational steps that has to happen before much else can follow.

What you're looking at is a precast concrete transformer vault. On a commercial project of this scale, the utility transformer that steps power down to a usable voltage doesn't sit on a pole or a pad above ground β€” it lives in an enclosure like this one, set below grade. Those 12 openings on the face are conduit knockouts, where the electrical runs enter and exit the vault to distribute power across the site.

It's a long way from a finished building, but this is how it starts.

Not all of the work happens inside a house. πŸ“‹

This is Nick, one of our Master Electricians and our on-the-go residential estimator. Here he's parked outside a job site, working up a quote on his tablet while waiting for the ESA inspector to arrive. Handwritten notes on one side, keyboard on the other β€” the tools of the trade aren't always what people expect.

It's a good reminder that what you see on a job site is only part of the picture. The quoting, the planning, and the coordination happening in between are what keep everything moving in and across Eastern Ontario.

Not every job starts with a build. Sometimes it starts with getting things back to where they should be. πŸ”¦

This commercial garage was connected to a neighbouring structure that was lost to a fire. The garage itself survived, but the electrical system wasn't safe to energize. The power stayed off until it could be properly assessed and brought back up to standard. That's where we came in.

Before any breaker gets switched back on in a situation like this, every circuit, every connection, and every component has to be accounted for. There are no shortcuts on a restoration. The goal is to make sure that whatever comes next, the electrical isn't a risk factor.

Power has a way of being invisible until it's gone. Our job is to make sure it comes back on safely and stays that way. ⚑

Every tradesperson started somewhere, and for some, it starts right here.

The younger half of this duo is Colton, a high school co-op student who's been out in the field with our crews learning the trade firsthand. Graduation is right around the corner, and he's considering making this his career. If this photo is any indication, he's already got the right boots for it.

The gentleman on the right is Phil β€” Journeyperson, and the kind of steady presence on a job site that every apprentice benefits from being around.

There's no better way to find out if the trades are for you than to actually show up and do the work. Colton has been doing exactly that here in , and we're glad to have had him alongside us.

Good luck with the final stretch, Colton. The trade will be lucky to have you!

Before the fleet, there was one van.

This is how Eldridge Electric looked in the late '80s β€” back when it was Ron Eldridge Electric, a blue GMC with a ladder on the roof and a phone number painted on the side. Industrial, residential, farm wiring, commercial. Even then, the work covered everything.

That number on the door? Still the same one in today.

Forty years later, the trucks have changed, the team has grown, and the scope of work has expanded well beyond what one van could carry β€” but the name on the side and the values behind it haven't gone anywhere. Lighting the way since 1985.

Pool's in. Heater's ready. Electrical? That's usually the call we get last β€” and the one holding everything up.

It's a pattern we see every spring and summer. A new pool gets installed, the heater is sitting there ready to go, and then the homeowner finds out the electrical connection wasn't part of the conversation with the retailer. Suddenly, the swim season is on hold until the wiring is sorted.

This is a residential pool heater hook-up right here in β€” trench dug alongside the house, cable laid with the proper caution tape, and connections made at the unit. The orange "Buried Electrical Line" tape you can see in both photos isn't just a nice touch β€” it's a code requirement, and it's there to protect whoever is digging near that line years from now.

Worth knowing before next season: if a pool or hot tub is in the plans, looping in your electrician early saves the wait at the finish line.

Temp power is live at the Comfort Inn Brockville!

Getting to that point meant a full underground installation β€” trench open, conduit set, backfilled, connections made, system tested. Our crew coordinated with on the excavation side of things: they handled the dig while we got the cabling in the ground, and once the trench was filled back in, we made the final hookups and brought everything online.

It's the kind of work that disappears the moment it's done β€” but it has to be right before any other trade on a commercial build can move forward. The GC on this project is Chamberlain Construction Services Ltd., and this is just the start. We'll be handling the full electrical scope as the Comfort Inn takes shape here in over the coming months. πŸ‘οΈ

πŸ”¨ Almost halfway through one of the most exciting residential projects we've been involved in this spring.

This historic home in downtown Brockville is being converted into a bed & breakfast β€” and the electrical scope reflects that. Network cabling, lighting, a service upgrade, and more.

That ceiling alone makes it worth showing up. 😍

We're proud to be part of something meaningful!

Our team is currently on site in Golden Lake, Ontario, completing the electrical underground work for the new Algonquins of Pikwakanagan Child & Family Well-Being Centre β€” a 24,000 sq. ft. facility being developed to serve children and families in the Pikwakanagan community with therapy rooms, cultural programming spaces, an Elders Lodge, and a gathering hall.

⚑ What you're seeing here is the underground electrical stage β€” multiple conduit runs laid precisely at the foundation level, before any structure goes up. This is the work that nobody sees once the building is complete, but it's the work that everything else depends on.

⚑ And then, there was power.

Our team set up temporary power at the site of a brand new Comfort Inn hotel being built right here in Brockville β€” a weatherproof panel, GFCI-protected outlets, and a solid setup to keep the job site running safely from day one.

Temp power might not be the most glamorous part of a commercial build, but it's one of the first things that has to go in, and it has to be done right.

Exciting to be part of a project like this one in our own backyard!
