Since we have a few bathroom renovations in the queue for the new year, I thought I would post some of the bathroom renovations we’ve done in the past.

This gas fireplace was built by the builder of this new house, but the scale was way off.
The home owner wanted a larger linear electric fireplace instead. We removed the old insert and cut the opening for the new one. We had to support the whole front of the wall with a new beam. If we didn’t support the wall with a beam, all that stone and the TV would have collapsed.
The home owner found some similarly coloured stone. We had to cut the four sides off of every new stone to get the right sizes and shapes. The home owner was very happy with the results.

We at the Kingston Humane Society are beyond grateful for the incredible generosity shown by Jeremy and his team at Vic's Automotive located at 654 McKay St.

Recently, our only fleet vehicle (a 2010 Chevy Van) needed immediate repairs. We rely on this van to transport animals requiring urgent care after hours or when our veterinarian is not onsite, we use it for events, supply pick-ups, and as part of our disaster emergency response. To say we need a reliable vehicle is an understatement.

Jeremy not only had it towed to his shop, but he also repaired and returned it to us in just 2 days! The total cost of the repair was $1,720.10, which he graciously waived.

This act of kindness left us speechless!!! It means the world to us and ensures that we can continue our mission of caring for and finding homes for the animals in our community.

A quick tile job in Kingston.
Duncan knocked it out of the park.
It’s very nice working with these large format tiles (24” x 24”).

The second photo is of the laminate that we removed.

Another great deck build. Decks are definitely one of my favourite type of jobs.
Again we used postech_kingston_jerome to install our screw piles. He was done in 22 minutes. We hadn’t even set up our tools yet. The screw piles allow us to start building immediately. No digging holes, no mixing and pouring concrete, and no waiting for concrete to dry.

After a lot of elbow grease preparing this 100+ year old door, we stained it and reinstalled it last Friday. The old varnish was like gum under the surface. We couldn’t sand it. The sandpaper would get all clogged up with old varnish. Had to scrape it all off. The customer was very happy.

This customer spent a lot of money on a complete bathroom renovation about 8 years ago. About a year ago the drain fl**ge in the curbless shower base started to leak.
They tried calling the installer but he never called them back.

I agreed to take a look at the shower. We attempted to do a repair of the linear drain, however the base continued to leak. We decided that the way to ensure that a repair would not leak was to install a complete new base with a curb. We ripped out the whole base of the shower and one course of tiles up the walls.
The glass door and panels were raised up about six inches due to the new curb. You can see in the pictures we had to get creative with the panel that wraps around the back of the tub.
The large format tiles on the floor of the shower were the final touch. Not all tilers will install large format tiles on the sloped surface of the shower floor.
Look how great the floor looks.
Everything has been working well for a couple of months now. Now the dining room ceiling can finally get repaired.

This was our first job of the new year. The bathroom received the complete gut treatment. Right down to the studs.
New window, new tub, vanity, etc….
