Skylights are often overlooked when home owners hire a roofing contractor to replace those old, tired roof shingles.
Why?
Home owners are under the misconception that skylights last indefinitely, and many roofing companies just do not know how to properly measure for and correctly install replacement skylights. Depending on the size and application of individual skylights, homeowners and contractors often shy away from their replacement as they can add significant cost to any roofing project.
Truth - depending on the quality of skylights, plastic or glass, their expected longevity is somewhere between 17-25 years.
Truth - replacing a 20 - 25 year old roof and not replacing the skylights is just asking for trouble.
