We just found out some horribly sad news about a kind, hardworking man and union brother who worked with us on the Molson's Brewery project. Anthony Hetzel was involved in a tragic accident – he was on his way to work when his car went into a ditch in the snow and, after getting back to the road to find help, he was hit by a snow plow. Anthony was rushed to hospital but succumbed to his injuries on Thursday, January 18th.

A GoFundMe has been started to assist his family in their time of need. The link is posted below. There is also a link to the story run by Global News about the incident.

Take extra care when working out in the cold, it can be more dangerous than you may realize.

Ensure your vehicle is prepared for winter conditions - recognize the hazards, and drive safely.

Dress for the weather – wear winter rated PPE and clothing , and replace them when they get wet.

Keep work areas clear of ice and snow to avoid slips and moisture in your work area. Use proper lifting techniques when shoveling to avoid injury.

Know the signs of hypothermia and frostbite – check yourself and your co-workers regularly.

Limit exposure to cold as much as possible, and if possible, create a wind shelter around your outdoor work area.

Wet conditions can lead to an increased risk of electrical shock. Cold weather can make insulation on both wire and tools brittle and easier to break.

Stay Safe, Stay Warm.

Here’s looking at highlights from some of the jobs we’ve had the opportunity to work on in 2023.

Whether it’s on an operating bridge over a busy waterway in all kinds of weather conditions, installing new production equipment on a compressed schedule, designing & building electrical rooms, refitting & renovating warehouse spaces, IR scanning & performing preventative maintenance, working on complex & detailed panel builds, upgrading existing equipment in a busily running facility, or performing emergency repairs, we’ve done it all and had fun doing it.

A huge thanks to each and every member of our team for making it all happen!

Today we celebrate National Lineman Appreciation Day. On this day in 1896, the IBEW's first president Henry Miller died on the job working as a lineman. Let's give thanks to everyone who gives their all to keep the lights on.

On Saturday, the Elworthy team attended an all-day training event for the 25th Edition of the Canadian Electrical Code at BCIT, presented by the International Association of Electrical Inspectors, BC Chapter. Great to see so many contractors and their employees keeping on top of the changes to the electrical code.

A little more fun, a little more love, a little more light every night - that's the joy of Hanukkah. Let there be light in your life, your home, and on the wick of every candle on your Menorah. As it glows with light, may all eight days and nights be warm and bright.

Chag Sameach to you and yours, from the team at Elworthy. May the warmth of great relationships always keep a smile on your face and a sparkling light in your eyes.
