Happy National Backflow Prevention Day! Did you know that backflow preventers keep drinking water safe from contaminants and pollutants? They are found in irrigation systems, boilers, chillers and, swimming pools (Testable Devices). Others types such as vacuum breakers found on garden hoses, toilets and soft drink machines (Non-Testable). Air gaps are built in to all taps or mechanically designed approved air gaps (AAG) that require annual verification and inspections. We all interact with these devices daily without thinking about them. If you have a testable type make sure that they are working correctly and have them tested annually, repaired, or replaced as required by your water purveyor, as well as local and national codes.
