As part of BCA’s report on the skilled trades: Laying the Foundation, we were excited to be part of their video project, highlighting the real stories behind Alberta’s skilled trades.

In the video, two of our very own Everyday Mavericks, Jason Sand and Sara Abbott, shared their journey into the trades and why this work matters now more than ever.

We were grateful for the opportunity to work with the Business Council of Alberta on this project, and to help share real stories from the front lines of Alberta’s skilled trades.

On World Food Day, we recognize the essential work that goes into preserving food and minimizing waste in the supply chain.

This year, our team took on a challenging retrofit at a Western Canadian food processing facility, installing two new blast freezer tunnels. By ensuring faster, more efficient freezing, these systems help our clients store food at peak quality, reducing waste and optimizing production.

As the world’s focus sharpens on food production and sustainability, Startec is dedicated to building long-lasting, innovative systems that help processors keep pace with demand while reducing environmental impact!

We had such a great time at the Business Fore Calgary Kids (BFCK) charity golf tournament earlier this month!

The Business Fore Calgary Kids Foundation aims to raise money for non-profit organizations that support local kids through an annual charity golf tournament. Over the years, they have raised more than $3 million for Calgary children’s charities!

Our industry tours have been back in full swing! We’ve recently welcomed students from The University of Calgary and SAIT to come by our fabrication shop to find out more about their future career paths.

Each tour was tailored to suit the group's interests and aspirations. For SAIT welding and refrigeration students, it was all about what to expect as they prepare to enter the workforce after they receive their diplomas. Meanwhile, our UofC guests explored refrigeration best practices, tying it back to the ASME program.

The best part of hosting? These tours provide a valuable opportunity for students to gain real-world insights into the work environment and industry practices. Plus, seeing their Maverick Mindsets in action, engaging with our team, and asking thought-provoking questions reaffirms our belief in the power of education and mentorship. It's a win-win situation where we have the chance to inspire future talent while creating meaningful relationships with academic institutions and industry professionals.

Startec recently participated in SAIT’s pre-employment Industry Night! It was an incredible opportunity for us to engage with students from diverse programs such as Refrigeration & Air Conditioning, Pipe-trades, Electrical, Welding, Carpentry, and Cabinetmaking.

Our dedicated team, including Nathan Preet (Production Manager), Coltier Crierie (HR Manager), and Kiana Stata-Luzentales (HR Coordinator), was present to connect with students and provide valuable insights into the industry.

As Everyday Mavericks, we understand the importance of networking for students entering the workforce, and we're here to offer guidance on job applications and provide a glimpse into the industry landscape.

Our partnership with SAIT is a collaboration where everyone wins – Startec, SAIT, and the students.

But our collaboration doesn't end there! We're continually exploring new avenues to connect with SAIT, whether it's through career fairs, presentations, donations, or co-op opportunities.
