I almost walked away from the electrical trade entirely.
I kept seeing the same thing over and over. Safety being skipped so jobs could be finished faster. Customers being sold work they didn't actually need. Rushed installs done by people who didn't fully understand what they were doing. It bothered me deeply, and I knew I had to do something different.
I'm Kyle Moss, owner of The Honest Electrician Inc. I've been serving Calgary homeowners for 13 years, and the whole reason I started this business came down to one thing: a client once told me they hired me because they felt they could trust me with their grandmother. That sentence changed everything.
The biggest thing I hear from homeowners is that they feel left in the dark after hiring a contractor. Nobody calls them back. Nobody explains what's happening. That's something I refused to accept. From the very first conversation, I keep in touch through phone calls, emails, and messages at every step of the process. Past clients have told me directly that our communication stood out to them, and that means everything to me.
One call I'll never forget came from a homeowner who just said something didn't feel right. A hot tub salesman had told them it was perfectly fine to install their hot tub directly under overhead power lines. I contacted a senior electrical inspector at the City of Calgary, who confirmed it was not acceptable. I came up with a solution that caused absolutely no damage to their basement walls or ceilings. We handled all the permits and inspections and made the whole process seamless for them. They called nervous. They finished the project with peace of mind.
That's the kind of work that keeps me going.
Outside of work, you'll find me on Saturdays watching my daughter play U5 soccer, cheering her on from the sideline. I grew up on a farm in Saskatchewan, so gardening has always been close to my heart. I spend a lot of time in my greenhouse caring for my vegetables. It keeps me grounded.
When my wife and I want a proper night out, we head to Caffe Beano on 9th St SW and 16th Ave SW downtown. I always order the hot chocolate. Honestly, it's the best in Calgary. And before any Saturday, I make sure to stop at Glamorgan Bakery for one of their world-famous cheese buns.
Also, I am on a mission to find the best pizza in Calgary. Any suggestions?
