With Thanksgiving just around the corner, many of us are wondering how we're going to get the whole family around the table... but these clients aren't!

With a new 10' custom built-in bench (with storage no less), they've got endless options to extend their table to accommodate upwards of 10 guests.

What's more, now that we've removed the wall between the entry, kitchen, dining, and living space, the whole main floor is now open for entertaining.

This backyard didn’t need a new deck. It needed a reason to use it.

With a new covered structure, stone fireplace, built-in grill, TV and overhead heaters, we transformed a fairly ordinary outdoor area into a space that can actually become part of everyday life.

Calgary evenings just got a lot more inviting 😎 .

This past weekend, Ultimate Renovations was honoured to be the recipient of the prestigious Pinnacle Award at the 2026 BILD Alberta Association Awards in Jasper.

With three supporting wins, two Best Kitchen awards, and another for our Kelvin Grove infill project, we couldn’t be more proud and excited to see the work of our team, trades, partners, and clients recognized at the provincial level.

POWDER ROOM FORMULA:

Small footprint + one brave design choice = a room nobody forgets.

This powder room didn’t need more square footage. It needed more intention.

We traded the oversized wall-to-wall mirror and builder-basic finishes for a tighter, more tailored composition: a streamlined dark vanity, crisp quartz countertop, sculptural brass fixtures, an oversized arched mirror, and that deep navy floral wall treatment doing exactly what a powder room should do - taking a little design risk.

The darker palette actually gives the room more depth, while the warm metallic finishes keep it from feeling cold. Even the lighting was reconsidered, moving away from a broad vanity bar toward a more decorative sconce that feels like part of the design rather than simply a necessity.

Same four walls. Completely different personality.

This Saturday, we’re excited to be attending the 2026 BILD Alberta Association awards, where we’ve been nominated for eight different projects.

From five different Best Kitchen Renovations, three different Best Home Renovations, and even one new Infill, we’re excited to be representing Calgary and the work of our dedicated designers, cabinet-makers, trades and project managers!

We look forward to celebrating the amazing projects named as finalists this year, and hope to share some exciting news with you next week.

THE FIREPLACE WALL

❎ Existing condition:
Two competing focal points. A recessed TV niche beside the fireplace. Heavy upper cabinetry. Multiple materials and horizontal lines fighting for attention.

✅ The intervention:
We simplified the visual hierarchy.

The television and fireplace were brought together on one strong vertical axis, framed by a floor-to-ceiling textured surround. A warm wood mantel interrupts the verticality at just the right point, while floating shelves extend outward to rebalance the wall.

Then, instead of bringing back bulky cabinetry, we added low-profile built-in bench seating with drawer storage - keeping the function while giving the room significantly more visual breathing room.

😍 The result:
Less visual noise. Better proportions. More usable storage. And one unmistakable focal point anchoring the entire living space.

Good renovation design isn’t always about adding more. Sometimes it’s about knowing exactly what to remove, what to relocate, and where the eye should land.

A before and after look at this laundry room makeover that took an otherwise cluttered and dysfunctional space and transformed it into something clever, dapper, and incredibly functional.

New custom built-ins, cupboards, drawers, open shelving, drying racks, and a dedicated utility sink make for a smoother, more efficient laundry day - all while giving this hardworking room a serious style upgrade.

Because functional doesn’t have to mean forgettable.
