30 straight days of gardening full time (mostly in other people’s gardens, not mine) has just given me 4 arugula leaves and 3 spinach leaves and a sprinkling of parsley on my morning omelet!

Tough day for this long-term crew member known as “Hailey” (because of the hail damage we bought her with). She’s been checked into short-term care though and will hopefully be back up and running soon. But in better news, all plants got planted today and all staff worked hard, and it’s Friday!

A Mother’s Day gift from my daughter, she beaded this herself, and I was blown away! It is a serious work of art, and she said it took her 30 hours to complete. This is what a gardener gets from her daughter! It’s amazing.

Dried veggies- primarily lettuce, but also dandelions, creeping bell flower, kale, parsley, Swiss chard, arugula (soo much arugula!) all dried last summer. Adding this to EVERY meal has definitely made my kids skeptical about food I make, but they have generally settled in to having dried lettuce on top of their salads, omelettes, soups, steaks, etc. ha- kids of the gardener suffer in unusual ways.

Veggies are going in… 2 week forecast looks reasonably good, so I’m getting kales, lettuces, beets, onions and asparagus in today, May 3rd. Woot!

So great to be back out full time in the sun; smelling fresh scents, seeing beautiful things (insects, early blossoms, perfect pine cones), meeting new people (staff, clients, passers by, other gardening businesses). Feeling refreshed, but totally exhausted. It’s 8pm and I might just call it a night!

Dear Mother Nature, us Calgarians are ready for spring. We got a taste (2 really great days) this week when I got a minor sunburn even, but scheduling our garden clients has become so challenging! From all of the Calgary gardening businesses out there, please cut us some slack and please give us some plus 15°C days this week with sunshine. Yours truly, Garden Soil-utions Ltd.

We got to work in the most amazing garden today. This client has been with me for about 25 years now, and it feels like such a pleasure to be in her garden that often starts to bloom as early as March. Hepaticas in all the colors, which is entirely unusual, were the highlight today.

It is definitely spring. We just had our first day out in the gardens, and so many treasures to be found! Hoards of ladybugs, hepaticas, crocuses and these daffodils were out front sunning themselves next to the snow just a few days ago. Loving today’s sunshine, but I am pooped from working my butt off!
