Sunday roof note: wind can do a number on more than just your patio furniture. 🌬️

In this case, roughly 40 feet of ridge vent has lifted from the roof. Once it starts moving, it is not something you want to leave flapping around.

This section will need to be removed and reinstalled properly with screws to help stop it from happening again.

Wave after wave looks nice at the lake.
Not so much across the top of your roof. 🌊

And since it is apparently National Bourbon Day, do with that information what you will. The roof still needs fixing either way.

Rainy Friday in Calgary, so it’s a good time for a quick moisture reminder. 🌧️

Attic airflow matters, but it has to be controlled.

You want ventilation in the attic so moisture can move out. What you do not want is warm indoor air leaking into the attic through gaps around the attic hatch.

If an attic hatch is missing weather stripping, that air can sneak up into a cold attic and add to condensation, frost, staining, and moisture issues over time.

The simple idea:

Vent the attic.
Seal the air leaks from the home.

Small detail, but it can save bigger headaches later.

A big thank you to Hope for the kind 5 star review. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

We always appreciate when customers take the time to share their experience. Being clear, honest, and easy to deal with matters just as much as the work on the roof.

Roofing is enough of a headache already. No need to make the process feel like a mystery novel. 🕵️‍♂️🏠

Thanks again, Hope. We appreciate it.

Caulking does a big job in small places. 🏠

It helps seal vulnerable areas around windows, flashing, siding, and other exterior details, but it usually has a shorter service life than the roof around it.

Depending on who installed it, where it is located, how much sun and weather it takes, and how much movement that area gets, caulking can start failing in as little as 5 years or last closer to 10. Calgary’s freeze-thaw cycles definitely do not help. ❄️🌧️☀️

If you notice cracking, gaps, peeling, or sealant pulling away, it is worth getting it checked before a small maintenance item turns into a bigger repair.

A good reminder that water does not just need to leave the roof. It needs to be directed somewhere that makes sense. 🌧️🏠

On this job, Matt and the team helped redirect water with a custom downpipe setup and flashing detail, so runoff was carried away from a problem area instead of ending right against the stucco.

Some homes have tricky drainage areas by design. We cannot change the way every home was built, but properly channeling water away from the roof, walls, and foundation can help prevent much more costly damage later. 💧

This is a good example of why clogged gutters should not be ignored. 🌧️

When the gutter fills with leaves, debris, and standing water, it can stop draining properly. Instead of moving through the downspout, the water starts spilling over the edge.

That can lead to problems around the roofline, fascia, soffits, siding, and even the foundation if water keeps landing too close to the house.

With rain and wind like this, it is also worth doing a quick check inside and outside your home tonight. Wind-driven rain can sometimes reveal leaks that do not show up during smaller rainfalls.

Take a look for:

• Water spilling over gutters
• Downspouts not draining away from the house
• Pooling water near the foundation
• New ceiling or wall stains
• Damp spots around windows or exterior walls

A quick walkaround during heavy rain can tell you a lot.

If something looks off, take a photo and keep an eye on it. And if you are not sure what you are looking at, reach out.

It’s Sunday, it’s late May, and maybe you’re in the mood to learn one oddly useful homeowner thing before the week starts. 🏠

If you recently upgraded to a high-efficiency furnace, your attic might be worth a quick DIY check.

Not because the furnace is bad. It just means your home may be holding heat and moisture differently than it used to.

Quick things to look for:
🔹 Rusty nail tips in the attic
🔹 Damp or compacted insulation
🔹 Dark staining on roof decking
🔹 Bathroom fans venting into the attic
🔹 Musty smell or signs of condensation

This does not always mean you have a roof leak. Sometimes it is attic moisture, airflow, insulation, or ventilation.

And if you take a look and think, “yeah, I have no idea what I’m looking at,” that is fair. Attics are weird little caves.

Call us and we can take a proper look.

White spots on shingles are usually a sign of age, wear, and granule loss. 🏠

A small spot might just need a closer look. But when a whole section starts looking like this, the roof is likely getting near the end of its life.

A few grey hairs are normal. On shingles, it usually means they have had a hard career. 😅

Not sure what your roof is telling you? Reach out and we can take a look.
