My earliest memories of gardening include “helping” my mom with the watering...which was really just me flooding the lawn and beds looking for earthworms. Later, I helped by planting unwanted sunflower seeds everywhere and blowing the seeds off dandelions. All my help was worth it however, because eventually I was old enough to graduate to “raspberry picker” which involved sending someone small enough into the middle of the thorny patch as secret revenge for being such a good “helper.” Thanks Mom.
My love of gardening really began with my love of nature and the outdoors. Growing up, I spent more time sitting up in the apple tree than I probably did at the dinner table and more time looking at bugs than the TV. I’ve also had a life-long love of animals, so when I entered the workforce it made sense that it would be into Pet Retail. I worked in the industry for 10 years and enjoyed it well enough, but it was indoors and there was always that itch. Spring would come around and I’d get stir crazy wanting to be outside bustling around with the rest of nature, welcoming new beginnings.
When the opportunity to work with Chickadee Gardens came along I latched onto it. Finally, a chance to work outside and I loved it. I love the cool mornings, the scorching afternoons, looking at bugs, getting my hands dirty and watching the sprouts of spring turn into the flowers of summer. I enjoy the hours of fresh air and sun to make up for the long winter. Bringing people joy by tending their gardens so they can sit back and relax in their outdoor space is an added bonus of it all.
It is with great anticipating that I continue Chickadee Gardens and the work Natasha has been doing for years because I just couldn’t imagine this coming to an end and going back to working indoors, staring out windows thinking of what could be.
